Hi all, Was just thinking of improving my DBA games with a a new battle mat or board. Up until now I have built my own but am not entirely satisfied with the results. I have noticed there aren't many commercially made battlemats, so how do you guys make yours? I think the playing surface is important so the game looks the part and adds to the whole experience.
Cheers, Paul.

A side question, sorry.
Paulisper, I was looking tiny wargames. Do you have the cloth mats or the mouse pad ones and did you get the 2'x2' or 3'x3' mats??
Cheers, EG

I use self-cut and self-painted MDF boards, but I've been intrigued about tying a mat. I've got my eyes on DeepCut, a studio from Lithuania. Anyone has used their products?

I have noticed there aren't many commercially made battlemats, so how do you guys make yours? I think the playing surface is important so the game looks the part and adds to the whole experience. I agree; an attractive playing surface (and terrain) certainly complements all the efforts in creating nicely painted armies. My friend, Eric Donaldson, and I have both commercially produced game-mats and our own, homemade versions. Both types are mounted on 2-foot square plywood and simply framed. First a view of a commercially made mat, this from Cigar Box Battle, with makes a series of mats designed for DBA. This is their arid mat. (The plowed fields are from Hotz Mats in Canada.) Below is a view of "Cigar Box's" Open Grassland mat. (This board is 3-feet by 3-feet and features a pair of our RRR armies. --All Mikes Models, BTW.) And, finally, of one of our older gameboards, which simply uses felt from a fabric store, but again mounted and framed. (The view here is of a "Battle of Arsuf" scenario, hence the unusual deployment. The waterway and other terrain bits were scratchbuilt.) I hope that helps and gives you an idea or two. Cheers.

I just got the rules and have not read through them yet except for a few pages. I know the suggestion for the playing surface was between X and Y length and width. What is the size mist players use for 15mm? I will probably make my own.

What is the size mist players use for 15mm? I will probably make my own. The majority use 2x2. Some folks in the states prefer 30" x 30", especially for LH armies. I use 2x2. And then use 4x4 for 25mm...cause I can make it with four 2x2 boards! Both sizes give fine games. Go with what is easiest for you. Joe Collins
