I just got the rules and have not read through them yet except for a few pages. I know the suggestion for the playing surface was between X and Y length and width. What is the size mist players use for 15mm? I will probably make my own. I play on a 2x2 board too. Happy gaming!

Joe, Do you section off your 4' x 4' so that it is 3' x 3'? 4' x 4' seems awfully big for a 28mm game (lots of extra maneuvering room, which the authors seem to frown upon).

I have a couple of Baueda's mats. They are very nice indeed. I also have a Cigar Box mat that is specifically designed for DBA and includes cut outs for woods, hill, etc.
Cheers,

Hi all, Was just thinking of improving my DBA games with a a new battle mat or board. Up until now I have built my own but am not entirely satisfied with the results. I have noticed there aren't many commercially made battlemats, so how do you guys make yours? I think the playing surface is important so the game looks the part and adds to the whole experience. Cheers, Paul. I have found about a half a dozen sources for commercially made mats. The best in my opinion was the terrain guy who is out of business sadly. But there is cigarbox mats, deep cut, tinywargames, hotzmats, more. Ask about this on the miniatures page and you’ll get a longer list.
Paul Hannah, I like the idea of putting a frame around a Commercial mat. Do you lock them in or do you have a frame with the plywood base and you put the mat in it Just for a game? I have some painted plywood battlefields with frames but I never thought of putting the commercial ones in.

A wide selection of battle mats can be found here bigredbatshop.co.uk/. Some are grid marked some are not. I currently use a 48" x 48" board covered with green felt. This I use for DBA games (I use 20 and 28mm figures) I have also marked tht in a 6" grid with small dots at the grid corners (so totally unobtrusive) which i use for "To the Strongest!" and "For King and Parliament" games.

I made some out of off cuts from B&Q that I had them trim to size. Some more successful than others, my patented left in the sun to dry warped board really helps the figs to stay on.
With the mountain of metal and plastic reaching room bursting proportions I have tried to convince myself that 2019 will be about finishing stuff and getting terrain..
I really want a desert and a plains mat in 2x2 for DBA and same two but in 3x4 for Lart and saga.
Think the mouse mat type is on the list.
For 6x4 and bigger I use cloth from haberdashery fields, desert, ocean and some grey ones for city fights were really cheap.

Well, both, actually. I have a Cigar Box "Grassland" (green) mat affixed to the framed game-board. But, I also have an arid/desert looking mat, cut-to-fit, that I can easily lay right over the green mat.

With the mountain of metal and plastic reaching room bursting proportions I have tried to convince myself that 2019 will be about finishing stuff and getting terrain.. That worked well Er indoors got me some vouchers for my local gaming shop so now have some 28mm Celt cavalry to do a SAGA force and one of the lads has flogged me his never started arab force for SAGA so no terrain and more stuff added to the getting round to list.

I use self-cut and self-painted MDF boards, but I've been intrigued about tying a mat. I've got my eyes on DeepCut, a studio from Lithuania. Anyone has used their products? Hi Vic, I saw Deepcut at the Tactica show in Hamburg at the weekend. Their mats looked nice up close. Felt like a thin mouse mat. They looked easy to roll up etc. I didn't get one at the time as they don't do 2'x2' as standard, but they said to go on their website and they can basically cut to order. Cheers, Eg

I use as playing surfaces neoprene ones (similar to "mouse pads") I have it in meadow version and desert version in 90x90cm (since i play 28mm figures) for single DBA and 90x180cm for double DBA. I'm very happy with them. The maker is warzonestudio (they also make "classic" battle mat not in neoprene but I recommand neoprene. Each carpet has a carrying bag.
