I understood that a camp could be placed on a edifice so the zone become good going instead bad going.
The question is : does the camp (smaller size could be on the edifice zone (larger size) or does the camp fits exactly the edifice zone to be placed on ?
Thanks in advance.

I believe that theedifice has to be camp sized if used as a camp.

But if the edifice has been settled by the defenser with a size greater than a camp it means that the invader could not put his camp in , which is not logical at all ? I do not see why you could not put your camp on the edifice zone keeping his size of course.

This is covered in the FAQ. The answer is no...it must meet the size criteria for a camp to be used as one. This is to prevent abuse. There are several ploys possible.

I’m just agreeing with Joe Collins. Here is my take on it. The last Jan 2018 FAQ says:- “ Q: I have a large Pyramid model (Edifice) that I would like to use as a camp. It is larger than the specified camp size. Can I still declare it as a camp? A: No, for an Edifice to be declared a camp, it must meet the camp size restrictions.” And page 7 paragraph 7 says:- “ Camp Location [7.7]: It must be in Good Going (except Plough) on the rear edge of its side’s deployment area or on a waterway or beach (within that deployment area - see FAQ), and should have only temporary structures (except that an Edifice so positioned (i.e. within the deployment area and touching the rear table edge) can be declared and act as a camp).” From this we get the following:- Players may choose to place one of two types of camp...an ‘temporary’ ordinary camp, or a ‘permanent’ edifice camp. Camps must be placed in good going...but can be placed in an edifice BUA if that BUA is the right size and in the right location. If an ordinary ‘temporary’ camp is placed in a correctly sized edifice BUA, it will become a ‘permanent’ edifice camp. But this does raise an interesting questionIf the defender has placed an edifice BUA anywhere on the table, can either player place an edifice camp in good going? After all, there can only be one edifice on the battlefield... I would assume not, so only ordinary camps are allowed when an edifice BUA is already present (unless that camp can be placed on top of a suitably sized edifice BUA, which would then convert the ‘temporary’ ordinary camp into a ‘permanent’ edifice camp). Likewise, if there is no edifice currently on the table, and the defender places a ‘permanent’ edifice camp in good going, then the invader could not also place a ‘permanent’ edifice camp because there can only be one edifice present. (...or is only one edifice BUA allowed, and a ‘permanent’ edifice camp in good going is not a BUA, so both players could have one? If so, then there could be as many as THREE (!) edifices on the table...one edifice BUA and two edifice camps in good going...)Some potentially useful player aids can be found here, such as the “Quick Reference Sheets” from the Society of Ancients, and the new “Army List Corrections” file: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Reference_sheets_and_epitomes And this is the latest January 2018 FAQ: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ_2018

So if the defender put an edifice (BUA size greater than a camp), as an attacker i cannot put this edidice in my zone and put my camp in.

That’s about the size of it (pun intended ).

You do not put a camp "on " or "in" an edifice. The edifice itself is used as a camp: "It is treated only as BAD GOING, except when it is used as a CAMP." and "(camp) should have only temporary structures, except that an EDIFICE so positioned can be declared and act as a camp."
The invader cannot use an edifice as a camp even if correct size and location because "If a BUA is chosen, it must be a city, fort, hamlet or edifice and will belong to the defender."
Goldenhord, you cannot put any terrain in your deployment area (defender puts terrain), but you can pick a deployment area with terrain, within the usual limits of roads. You can pick an edge with an edifice in it, but not use it as a camp.
Phil added the rule to allow an edifice to be used as a camp because he saw many people using permanent structures as camps. He did not, however, make it easy for them to get the edifice into position to be a camp. First the random placement, then the invader picking edge.

Ooooo...careful there Bob. I got into trouble back in May 21st 2018 when I quoted page 7, paragraph 1, first sentence:- “If a BUA is chosen, it must be a City, Fort, Hamlet or Edifice and will belong to the defender.” Here is my original observation:- fanaticus.boards.net/post/13128/...and my final submission:- fanaticus.boards.net/post/13137/Some potentially useful player aids can be found here, such as the “Quick Reference Sheets” from the Society of Ancients, and the new “Army List Corrections” file: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Reference_sheets_and_epitomes And this is the latest January 2018 FAQ: fanaticus-dba.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ_2018

I think the point is that if you use an edifice as a camp, it is not really an edifice any longer. Although I can't claim any inner sanctum development knowledge, I recall reading in a previous thread that allowing edifices (appropriately sized of course) was just a way of allwing players to use their exotically nice models of permanent structures of castles, keeps, pyramids, abbeys, lighthouses etc as camps rather than the recommendes more temporary structures such as earthworks, palisades or resting camels.

Simon

I am not clear that "belongs to the defender" prevents deployment in a hamlet or an edifice as a camp. I mean presumably the ENTIRE board "belongs to the defender", no?

Ha! That is very true Primuspilus. In which case why does Phil Barker specifically mention that only BUA’s “belong to the defender”? What exactly is he trying to tell us? Unless, as Martin pointed out, it’s nothing more than a ‘fossil phrase’ left in DBA 3.0 by mistake and no longer has any meaning... (Since a Fort must be garrisoned by the defender with a non-allied foot element, perhaps it would have been better to have said "any denizens belong to the defender")

I agree that only denizens belongs to one side. If nobody in, it belongs to first incomers (which is the case of Forts and Cities as defender). For us an edifice and and an Hamlet do not prevent the invader to settle in only city and fort do.
Ok for the fact that invader could not use edifice as a camp as I still do not see why as long as you take the edifice in your side your could not use as is. If i was an ennemy Campaign invader I will be happy to use a solid edifice rather than a tent :-)
The rules of camp size equal edidice is stupid and with no reality but this is the rule. Thx for your inputs, we will follow the FAQ.
