Hmm, looks like the confusion on our part was due to us considering PLOUGH as rough going since we remove it when it is not in play.

Where fo you place it if you end up with a watrway on your table edge.
Is it on the beach etc, never thought of it before.

I think the consensus is that you can place it on the waterway itself (a boat camp), on the beach, or in contact with the rear edge that is defined by them (i.e. along the edge of the waterway terrain piece). There's an answer in the FAQ that, although responding to a different question, states as much.
I place it in contact with the impassable part of the waterway.

I am with the consensus on not being able to place a larger camp. Remember tbere is a reason Phil made the minimum size for a camp as small as he did. A minimal camp WILL fit just about anywhere.
We use a gentleman's agreement to have larger camps, but in such a case, the camp follower element (if you have a generic, detachable one like I do in my terrain box) can double as a fixed camp in a tight spot... Assuming no one has ever actually built a minimal sized camp ...

And I suspect the guys who play on the big boards don't have this problem...

And I suspect the guys who play on the big boards don't have this problem... That's a 24" x 24" board , plenty of room to place the camp not in the plough .

Now place a full size waterway down one side ... And full size Plough x 2. Not hard to see how it could happen.

Hi paddy649! I think this is a great example of Mr Barker's style. As described by primuspilus so well, at the time of camp placement, Plough is Good Going. It's only after you roll a "1" on first PIP roll that it becomes Rough Going. So the exception is warranted. I'm pretty sure there is something in the introduction that the rules are written in the order that you will require them but sadly, the sacred Purple tome has not made this business trip. Why this is the case is up for conjecture. Maybe Phil didn't think you would place a Camp in the fields from which you expect to feed your army? Either way, I'm sure he would be bemused by our discussion. Cheers Jim OK - a logical argument. Sounds reasonable - I can accept that. My interpretation of those words has obviously been wrong up to now. I'll play it differently form now on...not that I can ever remember this being a issue....

And I suspect the guys who play on the big boards don't have this problem... I guess if a larger camp couldn't fit, one option would be to just have some of it on the board. There should always be at least a 40mm gap from the edge without terrain. Simon

I agree Simon. We shouldn't limit players modelling provided that the "spirit" of the rules is maintained.
