Still plodding away at "Paradise On Earth" at home, and on Friday I finished "The First World Empire" on the bus. On the weekend I started "Enemies Within" by Mary-Louise O'Callagan which is an account of the Sandline Affair in Papua New Guinea. This has proved to be an excellent read and I have snuck in a few chapters at home over the weekend when I should be concentrating on "Paradise On Earth"
Cheers

Over the weekend I finally finished 'Paradise On Earth' (the book was too big to take with me outside the house) and shortly afterwards I finished "Enemies Within"
Both were very interesting.
Yesterday evening I started "The 47 Ronin Story" by John Allyn - an English Language novelisation of the famous Japanese epic.

I'm looking for an owner of "Uniforms of the Peninsular War, 1807-1814", by Philip J. Haythornthwaite. I have difficulties to find uniform for some french regiment during the first Portugal invasion, for exemple some of the temporary regiment, made with 3rd and 4th batallions of regiments which were stuck elsewhere (for exemple the 66th line infantry). I was wondering if such battalion had the "up to date" uniform, or was using the same as the others bataillons from the same regiment.
So if someone had this book, which seems to be hard to find here in france, i'll ask for the specifics uniforms i want to confirm.

Only the 8th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 24th, 28th, 34th, 86th had white uniforms at the opening of the war. Replacing them was planned for January 1812. 2nd Brigade/ 1st Division Gen. de LabordeRegt.- collar-cuffs -flaps -lapels - buttons 15th black-white-white-black-white 86th white-l.green-white-l.green-white

Here is the force i'm planning to build (because one of my family should have been there ^^)
French Army of Observation of the Gironde - July l808 (source Nafziger)
lst Division: General de division de Laborde lst Brigade: 2/47th Line Infantry Regiment (l,54l) l/,2/70th Line Infantry Regiment (2,358) l/4th Swiss Infantry Regiment (985) 2nd Brigade: 3/l5th Line Infantry Regiment (l,086) l/,2/86th Line Infantry Regiment (2,50l)
2nd Division: General de division Loison lst Brigade: 3/2nd Legere Infantry Regiment (l,075) 3/4th Legere Infantry Regiment (l,098) 3/l2th Legere Infantry Regiment (l,253) 3/l5th Legere Infantry Regiment (l,305) 2nd Brigade: 3/32nd Line Infantry Regiment (l,034) 3/58th Line Infantry Regiment (l,428) 2/2nd Swiss Infantry Regiment (l,l03)
3rd Division: General de division Travot lst Brigade: 3/3lst Legere Infantry Regiment (846) 3/32nd Legere Infantry Regiment (l,099) 2/26th Line Infantry Regiment (5l7) l/, 2/Legion de Mediodia (842) 2nd Brigade: 3/66th Line Infantry Regiment (l,l25) 3/82nd Line Infantry Regiment (963) Hanoverian Legion (804)
Cavalry Division: General de division Kellerman lst Brigade 4/26th Chasseur a Cheval Regiment (263) 4/lst Dragoon Regiment (335) 4/3rd Dragoon Regiment (305) 2nd Brigade: 4/4th Dragoon Regiment (298) 4/5th Dragoon Regiment (29l) 4/9th Dragoon Regiment (337) 4/l5th Dragoon Regiment (322)
So on these, exept the foreign batallion, all should have "normal" uniform, exept the 15th (line) and the 86th ? I wasn't sure for the 3/66 and 3/82, as they belong to french regiments stucked in caribean isles with their white uniforms, i was wondering if the others batallions also wear this.
And, as i'm speaking english like a spanish cow, could you shox me what are the part of uniform you mention ? I have an idea for collar, cuff, lapels and button, but i'm not sure of what flaps are...

I noted your OB for the campaign in Portugal; uniform details given are for the only French regiments dressed in white uniforms. From the photo of the blue habit-veste, red cuffs are clearly seen with a strip of blue (cuff flap) covered with three buttons. history-making.com/product/napoleonic-french-line-infantry-officer-1806-1815/

I noted your OB for the campaign in Portugal; uniform details given are for the only French regiments dressed in white uniforms. What do you mean exactly:
1- You are sure that all others french regiments are dressed with the up to date blue uniform.
or
2- You are sure just for these 2, but not for the others.
Still my english.... I should have worked a bit more at school maybe ^^
