And the final hammer falls as Red Skull too late thinks about plodding down off the hill to help his faltering army. But too late it is and his Hydra Guard goes down under the onslaught of Capt. Miller with Sgt. Horvath, and some of the Howling Commandos. For me this was a great game and I was very pleased with how each army played. David is a most qualified opponent and this one could have gone either way. One thing I realized during play was that my Hollywood army is heavy in special units, while red Skull only has one – Red Skull, so there were more Red Skull elements than Hollywood. But in the end, yet once again Good prevailed over Evil. But I feel like Red Skull will most likely be back again some day! Next we decided to bring out two of our favorite armies – Narnia. David fielded his army of Aslan while instead of my fielding Queen Jadis, Queen of all Narnia, I fielded the army of The Lady in the Green Kirtle. This time I was the defender so I got to use my Queen Jadis Stronghold for the first time. Here are the initial deployments from the Snoopy blimp - Aslan’s forces at the top, and my Lady’s forces at the bottom. You can see David’s wonderful Lamp post in the woods at the top, and my army on either side of a bad going hill, with my Lady on the hill proper. A ground level view of Aslan’s forces. And a view of my Lady’s forces.

Meanwhile, Lulubelle is being hard pressed by those troublesome Dino-Panzers who have now got the aid of the Panther Lehr. With Lulubelle also getting some assistance from the 2nd Rangers it was a sure thing that somebody was going down…..and OH NO! What’s this – Sgt. Gunn rolled a 1 against a 5 and crumbles in the dust! What a sad, so sad day for the Hollywood army. But the battle rages on. The fight is pretty evened up at this point and after Red Skull and the Nazi Zombies dealt an underhanded blow against the other 2nd Ranger element with Upham, Captain America and Captain Miller could just not take it any longer! So they have now joined the fight in the flesh and are going to put paid to one set of Nazi Zombies (Warband). Red Skull as usual is trying to stay away from any combat by enjoying the view from atop a hill. Oh no!!!! More sad news as the Dino-Panzers have driven Sgt. Stryker and his boys off the edge of the world! OH! The shame of it all!!!! But now it’s payback time and Capt. Miller is about to give Red Skull’s Hydra Guard a quick lesson in fighting techniques, while Capt. America’s Howling Commandos are putting the very same truth to the remaining Nazi Zombies and an element of the Death’s Head Legion. The Score is now 10 to 6 in Capt. Miller’s favor.

Nope, it was only a push back forcing the Panther Lehr (Beast) to also back pedal a bit. And then a futile attempt to turn the advantage around the Nazi Zombies from Dead Snow have charged forward to attack some of Capt. Miller’s men, and to help the Dino-Panzers against Lulubelle. The of the Werewolf Brigade who had advanced were handily dealt with by 2nd Rangers and the Devil Dog Marines. Things start seeming a little grim and even Red Skull (Magician) has had to join in the fray, helping the Nazi Zombies attacking the other element of Captain Miller’s men and Upham. Corporal is no longer having to try and find his bravery and threw himself fully into the fight.

That Pesky Terror Bird sitting on Captain Miller’s right flank was just not going to do, so he sent orders for Pvt. Ryan along with Henderson and Toynbe (a Shooter element) to move out and take care of it. You can see in this Snoopy blimp shot that Ryan has started his move toward the Terror Bird, while Red Skull has sent his heavy hitters – the Death’s Head Legion and his own personal Hydra Guard forward. Lulubelle looks a little lonely out there all by herself, but from experience she’s used to that. And the Hollywood left flank is beginning to stir! And then out of the sky – The BIG hand appeared. But it probably didn’t give Red Skull the results he wanted as he found his Terror Bird out of command range! You can see the element of the Werewolf Legion has advanced to the edge of the woods, but still cowering back (gosh, it’s great to be the one wirting the history!!!), and PFC Ryan is advancing down the slope of the hill to put “PAID” on that Terror Bird!!! Yep, things have really started to get ugly on the Hollywood left flank and even Lulubelle has had to join the struggle. Here you see Lulubelle with support taking on the Dino-Panzers of red Skull’s army, with the Panther Lehr just behind – but a 5 to 2 combat sounds just like the kind of trap Joe Gunn would set up! Sgt Stryker and his Devil Dogs are holding on the far left.

This past Saturday David Crenshaw and I got together for a few games of HotT, which is always fun when the games are between us, as they are usually more of a marathon than quick game. And this certainly applies to our first game. Having finished my first two Weird WW2 armies I have been anxious to see how they played and if I had them balanced enough. So I requested we give them a try – Captain Miller and the rest of the Hollywood army taking on the evil Red Skull and his dastardly minions! I allowed David first choice and his true dark side sprang forth as he picked the general with the serious sun tan …. or was it a sunburn!!! So it was David with the Red Skull army and I had the Hollywood US army lead by Captain Miller of the 2nd Rangers. Here is the view from the Snoopy blimp – Red Skull at the top as the defender with the bunker Stronghold from “Devil Rock”. Captain Miller at the bottom. And here’s the ground level view of Red Skull’s deployment – as if that was going to do him any good!!!! And the crowd cheers for the good guys! Captain Miller’s army with Captain America’s men on the right flank (nearest the camera). You can see Captain American in his blue helmet and also Sgt. Joe Gunn’s Lulubelle. And to quote an old friend – “the game is afoot”! You can see Red Skull’s Terror Bird Flier advancing along with some of the Werewolf Brigade on Captain Miller’s right flank. Meanwhile Captain Miller’s Rangers with Upham and Sgt, John M. Stryker’s Marine Devil Dogs are advancing through the woods on the left.

Colin, First off, my sincere congratulations. And second, by all means you should indeed play in this years tournament. If nothing else, you've set yourself up as a target in the Barker Award running! Your armies do look very nice and I am sure are even nicer in person!
So I'll be counting on you this year as well!!!

I recently discovered a truly great source for custom decals in Kevin Hammond of Miscellaneous Miniatures so after having him create the Jack of Spades and WWI American armor insignia for my Weird WWI American army, and being soooo pleased with his product I turned right around and ordered three more decals from him, one of which is Lulubelle to put on the side of my M3 Lee tank from the movie Sahara (the original Bogie version). Since the tank was already done it was a simple matter of hitting it with another light coat of semi-gloss, apply the decals, and another coat of flat. Then I got to thinking, since it is now truly going to be Lulubelle I also created the spare track that the movie tank carried on the front and added that. So here's the new and improved Lulubelle, which is part of my Weird WW2 Hollywood US army. The really fine white line on the side is not part of the tank - our dear Clover (bunny) is shedding her winter coat so we have an abundance of white fur floating around!!!) What's really amazing to me is this is a 10 MM Pendraken tank and the Lulubelle decal is only about 4 MM long. But Kevin has made me others that are even smaller!!! Terry

In the final close out of the 2016 Good, Bad and Ugly Tournament I am pleased to announce the winners of the Barker Award and the Stronghold Award. These winners were decided by world wide vote by anyone who cared to do so. The voting was allowed on the Fanaticus, the Pendraken and the Yahoo HotT forums. I had tried to include TMP, but evidently it is taboo to try and run any kind of poll there so it was taken down (I am sorry TMP was not more supportive, but it is his forum). Without further ado the winners are The Barker Award is Colin O’Shea of the Staines Leg. Colin is proving tough to beat, being last years Barker Award winner also! Congratulations Colin!!! The Stronghold Award is a new award and the winner is Paul Potter of the Nashville Leg. Congratulations Paul!!! All the entries in both competitions were really creative and well done – had to be tough voting. My thanks to all those who vied for the prize. I want to express a special thanks to David Crenshaw who painted this years Barker Marker Logo figure for the Barker Award. Lastly my thanks to all who took time to look over the contestants and cast a vote. We, of the GBnU Tournament, truly appreciate your help and contribution. Onward to 2017 and be sure to “Look to the skies” – It’s Alien Invasion!!!!!! Terry

A bit more of the army. Yes, I know that too is not what one would expect of an American Ft7 camouflage scheme, as it looks more mid-30's French. However, the heart insignia on he turret pretty much identifies it as a American tnak and so even if hte scehem is not accuarte it sure was fun to do. And the last little bit for now, he Packard Mk I Walker. And again for those who may question the camouflage scheme, I took it from an American railway gun of the period. This army, and the German army I will do next to oppose it, are based on the wonderful "The Great Undead War" series by Joseph Nassise. More to follow, Terry

The Yanks are Coming (singing chorus please). I am working on the bases for my Weird WWI American army and will post pictures when it's done. However as a glimpse of the fun these threads may be of interest. This SPAD is a Flyer representing Freeman in the story. And yes, I had a custom decal made for the Jack of Spades for the lower wing. Yes, I know, that is not a proper camo scheme for a SPAD XIII, but if you know the story, then you will know that the war has gone on for 7 years and it's 1921. That being the case the official camouflage scheme as of 1920-21 for US aircraft was this and consisted of purple-red (mauve), straw and dull black green, with a light undersurface. That being he case I took the pattern from the Roland D.VI which was hte one of the test aircraft at McCook Field. This FT17 will be either a Knight or Rider, as the battle dictates. Terry

This is the final poll for the 2016 GBnU Tournament, and this is the new award for the best Stronghold. Each Leg is allowed to submit their best candidate and then we put all of those submitted up for the public to vote on. A playing knowledge of HotT is not required to vote as this is more of a creative and modeling competition. However, the Stronghold must fit within the scheme of the army it goes with, which is already determined before the candidate is submitted for the final vote. The prize for the Stronghold Award is a very nice one, provided by one of the Leg Coordinators. Now to the eight contestants, in no particular order. Please vote for one only.
