I'm away I'm afraid, sorry to miss this historically focussed tournament.

We're on holiday in Crete and I read Antony Beever's book on the battle. Made sense of it for me. I'd be interested to know if his blame of General Freyburg for the debacle is still the view 30 years on.

I have played a few games of ADLG and ADLG Renaissance. My main impressions were that movement was subtler and combat less subtle than in DBA. You don't have the shifting battle line, instead you mark losses with counters. It is perhaps more historical for the commander to have no choices to make once combat is joined - but I prefer DBA nonetheless.
I would be interested to know what others think.

Hi Paul, apart from the Wimp Wars rule, is dismounting "rules as written"?

It was a brilliant choice brilliantly executed Mark. I am just a bad workman who always blames his Tamils.

Not (to return this thread to its origins) if (a) half of them belong to an ally general and (b) in any case, you have only rolled 1 pip for movement.

One in the back, one in the front and two in the glove compartment. How do you get two whales in a mini?

One in the back and one in the front, of course. How do you get four elephants in a mini?

I liked it that there were roll-over-able camps because I think camp attacks were a thing and the rules make camps too strong. Plus it added one more point of diversity to the circuit. But I agree that, one way or the other, the rule should be sorted out in advance.

I'm currently reading Roger Knight's book "Britain against Napoleon - the organisation of victory", which documents Britain's numerous payments to keep other armies *in* the field. I feel it would be rather unpatriotic to pay to get them *out* of it!
P.S. a bad mahout always blames his mount

Hi Martin, owing to incompetence I thought I would be away at the end of April and now will not be. I think I'm too late, though, for a place at Alton. Am I right?
Yours,
Paul
