I know attitudes are different in France so can I ask - is there any chance of a vegetarian food option for lunch?

Thanks for the kind words. i will apply the extended timing next year. Thanks for organising Pete and nice to see everyone getting a prize. Great fun as usual, some challenging games but all played in a good spirit and a nice and airy venue with good heating (when required!) The only minor gripe would be that time did seem very tight, so a slightly earlier start and later finish giving a more time for the games next year would be great. However getting the 6 rounds in makes it well worth the trip. Looking forward to next year. Thanks for the feedback. Timing for the opening games was tighter as I got sucked into playing. Interestingly it's the same timescale I've used in previous years but it clearly was an issue this year, so I will fix it. It's difficult to be flexible when playing as organiser! An earlier start would make it challenging for those travelling long distances, but I'm happy to be flexible about the end time.

Does anyone know why Sarmatians aren't listed as an ally for EI Roman (II/56)? We supposedly know from Dio & from archaeology in the North of England that hey were here in Britannia particularly at Chester
It seems odd that they aren't listed in DBA. I only just realised that this is missing. IIRC it was allowed in DBMM. They are allowed in other rules such as To The strongest & Art de la Guerre. Are there other armies that are missing allies?

Thanks to everyone who came and made it such a delightful event.
Final scores look like:
Ian Pain III/72 + III/40 ally 24 Neil Mason IV/23 21 Arnau Marmier II/56 18 John Saunders IV/3 17 Colin O’Shea III/40a 16 Mark Johnson IV/3 16 John Irwin III/40a 13 Philip Donald II/56 10 Bruce Williams III/19c 6 Martin Smith IV/23 5
Pleasingly Ian's army was also (IMHO) the best painted beautiful work with very special terrain.
You can check out a few snaps on the List site.
Next year's theme will be " It's all Greek to me" with Greek speaking armies

Great venue, theme and organisation and everyone went home with a little something from the prize table. Apart from a couple of Early Imperial Roman armies all were from book III and IV with nothing later than Feudal English; so, lots of cries of “SHIELD WALL!” I took III/40a Vikings with the berserker option. My terrain choices were: compulsory waterway, with a hamlet and two medium sized marshes. This combination was placed once by me and was reasonably useful and once by an opponent which caused me some deployment issues as all my elements were close formation foot. My cunning warband plan worked against me in that I was expecting some horde elements which are quick killed by warband, but the only time my warband element attacked and killed a horde element was when I fought against my own army! In my first game my III/40a Vikings fought against another III/40a Viking. This could easily have been a draw, but the game ended with much work for the Valkyries. In one game I played Feudal English and quickly sent my knights in against the fast blade Vikings – my general died on a draw and the rest of the knights were swiftly hacked down. In the next game, this time using my Vikings, I did the same to some Sarmatian ally knights. In fact, my Vikings were rarely troubled by any knight contact all day – the one element Vikings fear. I didn’t once make a useful littoral landing, but the fast blades enabled me to dance around in front of several opponents causing some satisfying mayhem. Slightly shorter game time in the morning was frustrating, but it was a great day of DBA against mainly skilled and experienced opponents. Thank you everyone, especially Pete (organiser). Colin Thanks for the kind words. i will apply the extended timing next year.

Pete, Was planning to attend, but have just produced a positive lateral flow test. Asymptomatic and totally out of the blue. But I am afraid it rules me out. Have a good one! Scott Bummer. And we are only down the road for you. It would have been great to have you, especially as I've not seen you in far too long a time... Get well soon (can you get well if you don't have symptoms? if not stay asymptomatic!),

After a query I've updated the tournament rules to make it clear that you need to choose 12 elements for the whole tournament with no changes between rounds and no dismounting.
Really looking forward to seeing you all (12 at the last count) a week tomorrow. Do bring a board if it's easy for you to do so.
Four slots are still available.

Pete, You list IV/83 WOTR. Does that include the two rebel armies IV/83b and IV/83c (Henry Tudor and Lambert Simnel)? Scott Hi Scott . Definitely - Bosworth is just down the road and Stoke Heath was well in the boundaries of the Mercian Kingdom . Does this mean you might be coming? I hope so?

Are 6Cv allowed (as "core" troops), or not? They have 3 vs Mounted and 3 vs Foot, but get a +1 vs Foot (most of the time, as in close combat in GGo) As they are really good elements in general, the theme would probably work better if they were not allowed (as "core"). Can we get a definitive answer on this please Simon? I'm guessing it's a "NO" by a straight reading but the 6Cv do look tempting...

Saturday 12th February Theme - any army that may have fought in the English Midlands.. If you don’t have a valid 3.0 army - no problem as loan armies are available. Same 12 elements for each game, no dismounts. I think the full list of possibles is: I/14abc Early (European) northern Barbarians II/53 Ancient British II/56 Early Imperial Roman II/64a Middle Imperial Roman - West II/73 Early Anglo-Saxon (NB not Frisian) II/78a Late Imperial Roman -West II/81abcd Sub-Roman British III/19abc Welsh III/24ab Middle Anglo-Saxon III/40ab Norse Viking III/45 Pre-Feudal Scots III/52 Norman III/72 Anglo-Danish IV/3 Anglo-Norman IV/4b Feudal French (1217) IV/23 Feudal English IV/62 100 Years War English IV/83 Wars of the Roses and Tudor English We will attempt 6 rounds. For the first round players will use their own army, in alternate last rounds players use their opponent's army. Bring a clear, spare list to help them. Also bring a preset valid set of terrain pieces for use with your army by yourself and by your opponents.
