No, not quite correct. A: An element of Spears adds +1 when in frontal close combat in good going against enemy foot if at least 1 flank edge is in mutual side edge and mutual front corner contact with a friendly element: of Spears or “Solid” Blades
B: An element of “Solid” Bows adds +1 when in frontal close combat in good going against enemy foot if at least 1 flank edge is in mutual side edge and mutual front corner contact with a friendly element of of “Solid” Blades
Tom's reformulation adds a +1 for Sp for rear support as an option. But all the support is maximum of +1
I would add the same for Bow. Again the maximum support is +1.
Does this reformulation help?

I am surprised that there is no reference sheet.

Hmmm... I won at least 4 major tournaments as Alex. Cold Wars, Historicon, Nashcon.... Major US Tourneys... That seems to challenge your statement. Joe Collins V2.2 or 3? 2.2 for certain, as I haven't had as much tournament experience in the last 8 years (though I have had some). Version 3 produces its own problems with Alex...some about which I have written extensively. The problems however are fairly particular against certain other armies (mainly Blade based). Though, I think moving to a Successor army could perhaps bring the Macedonians back to glory. I find DBA to be much more historical than most other Ancient rule sets. I think it does a great job at recreating historical battles... as you all know. The lack of grading factors is easily remedied for historical battle games. Their inclusion certainly is helpful for Cannae and such. Joe Collins

it isn't only the Carthaginians it has wrong though, so they are in good company. Veterans should be classed as Superior, but DBA doesn't have this. You probably need to get into DBMM terrain for more historic accuracy. How would you class Caesar's Elite Legio X? They are already blade, The Argyraspids, they are pike do they also become blade?
If you are a romantic, like me, and want to try try your hand at being an Alexander, Caesar, Hannibal et al DBA doesn't do that.

Carl: Don't tell anyone... but those 15mm DBA players are lightweight pansies... 25/28mm is the true scale. I 'm glad you found it early on... But keep it under wraps... the 15mm players have delicate dispositions!

Ugh... Still working on the French HYW army. It is 28mm and almost triple sized. I am beginning to despair. After that, I am replacing some Macedonians (new Hypaspists)... and then... it is HoTT...
I have to do a Corflu Cultists army... ( Magician General, Blades and Airships!)
and then a Cronk Army.
Does anyone have an figure ideas for Ramon Cronkavitch and the Cronks? Heavy Puglunk Units? (as of course opposed to light Puglunk Units)

I do love the frame around your board.

Ax recoil a full base width from Pike and Blade... that one first. Pk recoil all non-Pikes on a tie for a second. 3Bd only quick-kill 4Kn on ties for a third.

Alexandrian, Persian, and Greek make a good triad.
Crusaders, Byzantines, Ayyubid makes another.
Hard to beat Norman, Anglo-Saxon, Viking. Of course, you need to add Scots, Welsh, Irish, and French.

4Cv... no.
8Ax... interesting.
Hypaspists perhaps?
Possible for Hannibal's Gauls and Spanish?
is there any evidence either of these deployed in deep formations?
