Please let me know by e-mail or private message if you would like to come along. The idea is that you bring along two historically matched armies. You play with your own armies for three rounds and your opponents' for the other three. Opponent chooses which army to play with when your armies are being used. Venue will be in the Bakewell area with the usual 1000 first game.
My planning assumes continued lifting of COVID rules.
Cheers

Congratulations to Clan Myers as Martin and Patrick Myers (father and son respectively) came joint first at the Midland Open in Youlgrave yesterday.
The full results were as follows:
1 = Martin Myers (II/32a Later Carthaginian) 1 = Patrick Myers (II/76 Koguryo Korean) 3 Simon Wilson (II/52 Dacians with Sarmatian Allies) 4 Colin O'Shea (IV/82 French Ordonnance with Venetian allies) 5 Tom Whitehead (Greek Kyrean I/56a) 6 Mark Johnson (III/15 Tibetan) 7 Mark Skelton (IV/65 Wallachians with Polish allies) 8 Andy Wheeldon (II/32a Later Carthaginian) 9 Martin Smith (I/28 Sea Peoples) 10 Keith Murphy (1/58 Meroitic Kushite) 11 Baldie (III/54b Qaramita) 12 Phil Johnson (Late Roman Eastern with Pre-Islamic Arab allies)
In order to comply with COVID regulations, the 12 players were put in two remote fixed teams for the day. A bit different from usual but everyone seemed to have a good time and enjoy being back at a tournament.
Thanks to Gavin at Alternative Armies for donating prizes from his 15mm camp items range and to Sharon at the Farmyard Inn for providing an excellent ploughman's lunch.
I am planning to run another Bakewell tournament in late September/early October so watch this space.
Cheers

I am pleased to say that nice guy Gavin at Alternative Armies www.alternative-armies.com/ has kindly offered to provide the prizes for the 2021 Midland Open in Bakewell (Youlgrave) on 10 July. We have 12 players signed up who will play in two teams of six at different locations to meet COVID rules. Watch this space for post-tournament report! Simon

I regret that the Midland Open on 10 July cannot go ahead in its normal format. I have e-mailed all those who were signed up to propose a reduced event. Please let me know if you were signed up and do not receive the e-mail.
Kind regards,
Simon

Concerning diagram 16a, I wonder if this does show the positions at the end of the movement phase. I think so because the supporting text discusses what ranged and close combat is possible and I don't see any point in considering that until the end of the movement phase...

Hello all.
I await the government announcement on lockdown easing with interest but not optimism! I am currently looking at contingency options and will get back to those who signed up for 10 July over the next few days - so please don't jump to any assumptions and delete the date from your diaries! In the meantime, support your local pub an get a few pints down!!
Cheers

Suspect this is just a typo and I have never seen this arise as an issue in a game!

You could put your 2 x 2 table on a lilo! ... and play in shallow end of pool in case you have to dive for miniatures that go overboard!

A few year's back, Pete Duckworth and I did a DBA refight of the Battle of Bosworth - on the actual site of the battle.

Agree - but did you resolve shooting by firing matchsticks from an old Britain's metal cannon?

I have to say that I have moved away from creating "realistic|" terrain and have adopted the approach that Mark mentions above. Having said that, I do like a modelled camp or BUA!
Welcome back to the DBA fold!
