…a few years ago timurilank did paint for me any Slavic armies like the Croats 3/26b: …army composition: home terrain littoral; Ag:1: 1x3Cv (Gen), 2x3Cv, 8x3Ax, 1x2Ps …in version 3 army composition is a bit different. So I like to field a version 3 Croat army with superior auxilia(4Ax) with axe men & the cavalry more Sarmatian style with contos... …in the version 3 Slavic tribes are separated geographically, the Wends are living on the Baltic coast. But the Wend land is in Germany. The limes Sorabicus was the frontier between the Francs in the west and the Slavic people in the east in 9th century. There is also a border river called Elbe. The Slavic people living on the northern coast. There were two rival tribe confederations: the Obotrites and the Veleti. A tribe of the Veleti were the Hevellli. in Brandenburg. In 906 married Vrastislav 1st duke of Bohemia a Hevelli princess called Drahomira. In FOG; Wolves from The Sea there is a Great Moravian list that could be quite simillar to the Croats as a DBA list 3/26b…

..a good example are the early Slavs emerged from historical obscurity when the westward movement of Germans in the 5th and 6th centuries AD (thought to be in conjunction with the movement of peoples from Siberia and Eastern Europe: Hunnic tribes, Avars & Bulgars) started the great migration of the Slavs, who settled the lands abandoned by Germanic tribes fleeing the Huns and their allies. Usually Slavs fought as auxiliary with javelins. In DBA terms most Slavs emerged after 800 AD to spearmen. But the Croats 2/26b did not. In version 3 they are solid auxilia (4ax)…

...so my start playing DBA was the German translation of version 1 in 1990 ...that was the version with the slow LH on roads. We did much enjay the rules with a limited number of army lists. But after the first 200 battles or so we would like to try other nations or tribes. That was also the time of new latin american figures like the Tlaxcalan, Mixtec & Zapitec. So we did create our own lists. Soon SOA published a few official redmen lists. An other problem was the Hussite war waggon. The rules did not work. An other problem was the bronze age in northern europe. List 7 you could use for hina only. So we used list 35. But how to handle the trojan war? Many of our problems did disapear with version 2...
