Salutations, gentlefolk !
Back in ye '90's I occasionally fielded a Cyropaedic Persian army under the 1.x rules - war wagon, 3 scythed chariots, camel cav...
You _really_ needed to be fighting on exterior lines - the 'outside of the curve' - if the extra-deep base elements had to retreat, 'twould be getting in each others' way immediately.
(This is, of course, utterly irrelevant to DBA 3. Apologies for wasting your electrons... Up past bedtime...)

Salutations, gentlefolk,
Can't say that I contributed all that much to ye olde Fanaticus site, but am glad the material there will still remain accessible to the world.
I assume, tho, that the threads on the Forum there are gone ?
Yours, John

Salutations, gentlefolk,
Two weeks from today is NJ Con (www.njcon.org). Have sent in orders to pick up there - Queen Zenobia from Silver Eagle to command the Palmyrans I'm painting for a friend, and ordering from Windsword, some Old Glory packs to fill out Palmyran light horse and irregular archers, legionaries/skutatoi to finish up the Late Roman list, and Arab peasant hordes for the Early Crusader friends and foes. (Have decided to do the Early Crusaders before the Sui/Tang Chinese - the troops are just more 'morphable'.)
It's Memorial Day, Monday, in the US. Suprisingly, my relatives went thru the 20th Century almost unscathed - a cousin was a radioman at a Vietnam base, an uncle manned an Aleutians radar station in te '50's, another uncle was an artilleryman in the 'Bucket of Blood' from Paris to the Bulge, but the only one who didn't come back was one of my mother's cousins who joined the Marines, went to China in the '20's in the Legation Guards, and died of typhoid fever (? that's what I think I remember), and was buried in Beijing or Tientsin. Would check and see if anything remains of the cemetary, but at my stage of life, strongly doubt I will ever make it to China.
(There may be a website on 'finding about your distant relative who served in the military way back when', if you could clue me in about it.)
Yours, John

Salutation, gentlefolk !
Would say that the _Triumph_ 'startup procedure' goes quickly once you've begun a couple of games - try running thru it once or twice. (Yours truly should have done a few practice openings before getting into the first _Triumph_ tournament.)

Salutations, gentlefolks! The WADWAG group seems to have reformed into the Washington Grand Company, now working on the _Triumph_ rules (available at www.wargamevault.com/product/196955/TRIUMPH-Early-Access-Edition www.wgc.com for the army lists and discussion forum) Some of their army ratings (invasion/maneuver/home terrain): Early Imperial Roman - 3 / 2 / arable, hilly Severan Middle Imp Roman - 2 (east) 1 (west) / 3 / arable, hilly Early German - 2 / 3 (Churusci or Batavi) 2 (others) / forest Palmyran - 1 / 3 / dry Early Sassanid - 3 / 2 / arable, dry, hilly Early Arab Conquest - 4 / 3 / dry Early Crusader - 4 (1096-1098), 1 (after 1099) / 1 (under Bohemund 1096-70), 3 (in desperate straits 1098-98), 0 (rivalry and dissention, 1100-28) / arable, hilly Sui Chinese - 3 / 2 (normally) 0 (if Million-Man Army used) / hilly, arable, forest Startup procedure: Players roll D6, add Invasion Rating, reroll ties. Lower total gets Home Field, chooses terrain if two or more types available. Roll D6, add Maneuver Rating, reroll ties (Reroll ties but Advantage Score = 0) (may Flank March if DR is 1 or is less than Maneurer Rating). Higher has Tactical Advantage. Difference is Advantage Score. Player with Tac Adv picks terrain roll D6, add Adv Score, -1 if Steppe, +1 if Forest or Marsh, to get number of terrain pieces Arrange terrain pieces in order, double-size before single size Draw Terrain Card, arrange pieces in order shown. Now, I've outlined the way they're doing this. I was out of the hobby for most of the decade '06-'16, and don't know who's on which side of whatever feud. Not volunteering on one side or other. Do know that the WGC people are pretty good folk, active in arranging events and demos in the US 'Middle Atlantic' area, where I'm living... Yours, John

Salutations, gentlefolk ! Well, ye Middle Imperial Romans approach the finish, a dozen figures need the final details with 10/0 brush, shields, basing, flocking - the finicity details requiring concentration. And you tell yourself "Let's FINISH one figure every day, THEN throw black paint into the recesses of the troops we just bought and deflashed and primed... Regardless, here is the first figure finished of an Early German army that will oppose them, who proclaims good hopes and wishes for Passover, Easter, or other spring festival of your choice. Here in New Jersey the cherry blossoms are blossoming, and the temperature supposed to hit 80F today - remember Cold Wars with the snow on the ground, 23 days ago Yours, John Attachments:

Salutations, Mr. Collins, and other gentlefolk,
Having been 'away from the hobby' for the decade '06-'16, I am ignorant of the 'unofficial history', and would guess that whatever was said on the threads of the original Fanaticus site is inaccessible, which may be just as well.
So taking your advice. (Those who want copy, can reach me, will email back...)
Note that my unpainted lead of Sui and Tang China was inadvertantly broadcast to the world.
My brain ain't functioning well this weekend. Apologies.

Hello again,
There should be a way to post PDF files to the wiki. Later today I shall figure it out. Past my bedtime now. Brain needs rest.

Salutations, gentlefolk !
It's been a mild winter here in New Jersey, the high temperatures the past two weeks went from 30s to 70s to 30s to 60s, now down to 20s, bit of snow Friday morning, more expected Tuesday, and warmer than 40s not expected until Cold Wars starts. If you'll be looking for me there, new photo for avatar, taken Thursday night at weekly historical gamers gathering at Maplewood Hobby, so you know my current appearance...
Will be uploading to the wiki, probably later this weekend:
1 - Some 'checklists' of stands needed for the 'all options' OOB of a couple of dozen armies - a way to keep track of the figures wanted / acquired / painted and based - put together when getting my 'shopping list' ready, hope you find them useful. For example
E Hungarian KnGn 0 Cv 0 LH 000000 Sp 00 Ps 00 3Ax 0
I may also upload _Triumph: An Epitome for DBA 2.2 players_, a guide to the 'new stuf' in that ruleset. Unless, of course, the Fanatici scream "Heretic - Burn Him At The Steak"
See you in Lancaster!
Yours, John
PS - Upon sufficient inducement, may describe the Heresy Trials and Inevitable Verdicts in The True Faith of the Sacred Cat Mota...

Salutations, gentlefolk !
At Fall In fleamarket, picked up bag of 25mm Essex figures, enough infantry for an 'Arab Conquest' DBA army. Looking to acquire the cavalry, etc, to complete it.
Any suggestions on other manufacturers, in lead/pewter or plastic, making horsemen and camelry of size compatibile with these ?
Or mayhaps should not waste time dithering and just send Essex an order for the troops ?
Your advice earnestly sought.

Salutations, gentlefolk !
Well, me and my benefactor backandforthed it a bit, and decided he'll be getting...
The army of Queen Zenobia of Palmyra, AD 260-273.
Here's why: With the current *^&*%&*#@$% in the Middle East, a lot of people have at least heard of it. You get Queen Zenobia - one of history's greatest female generals - in your command unit, wearing purple robes, riding a white camel. The ladies he lives with should like that. The troops are interesting and colorful. It's a very strong army on its home turf - open plains and gentle hills. (Stay away from dense woods and steep hills, it should.) I'm finishing up painting a Middle Imperial Roman army, so he'll have a historical opponent
So, I need to acquire some top-quality 15mm: cataphracts (would like it if all horses aren't in step ;-) ) light horse archers bowmen, both regular and irregular legionaries, on the Middle Imperial/Late Imperial cusp
Suggestions for the makers of these figures earnestly desired. If they will be at Cold Wars, so much the better (and will have order, for delivery there, off to them immediately).
Thanks, very much, for any help you can give me with this !

Salutations, Haardrada !
Would take a look at the Outpost Pict figures, see how you like (Got most of a DBA army of these, last year, US distributer closed out line, got very good deal. When I finish Middle Romans and Palmyrans, then will figure whether they or Early Crusaders or Tang Chinese are 'next in line').
Anyway, am planning converting empty 'packing tape' cardboard center to Pictish broach (Don't laugh - fits in DBA BUA area, and is In Scale!)
New smartphone just acquired, when I figure out how to get good pics from camera, will have report up.
Good Luck!

Salutations, gentlefolk !
First, a big THANK YOU to Stevie for his work !
Second, I got an autosend Email "'Reference sheets and epitomes' page has been edited". So checked there. Realized I'd uploaded two copies of the 'Gelidis-1.pdf' (the basic rules, reformatted) but none of 'Gelidis-2.pdf' (the troop types and their interactions)
So uploaded Gelidis-2, and am hoping I didn't foul up the formatting on the 'Reference sheets and epitomes' page too badly, and if I did, I hope someone better at Wiki editing can fix it.
My apologies. Crazy weather here in New Jersey this past week, feel like I'm thinking in mental fogbank, maybe coming down with something, should just hibernate a while ....
