Not being a fan of the Romans I've always wanted a Roman enemy army but have never got round to recruiting one, exept for my Huns which I consider a nich army as they only Historically fight Late or Patrician Roman armies.
I had looked at several of the other Roman enemy armies and decided I wanted one that was different to use than my existing armies and to be barbarian in type and "British" in nationality. This left me with the choices of Ancient British,Picts,Scots Irish and Welsh.I have a Late Welsh army so that ruled them out and I have never Identified with the Ancient British and their "Panzer Brigade" and the Irish Auxilia army is too light.
This left me with the Picts, I have already got a 3Pk army with the Late Welsh but like their speed and do not mind this simularity as much as their is also more choice of support troops in the Pict list and their aĺlies.
Now I have my choice Its working out troop choice, tactics and use of terrain,Littorial landings and how to fight the pesky Romani?

Thanks Ammianus, They look fantastic, but don't think that Splintered Light are available in the UK unfortunatly. How do you find they play?In other words the best tactics? I am also eyeing up the Long Range Logistics Broch and stone circle camp but do not know if they are still available.

Salutations, Haardrada !
Would take a look at the Outpost Pict figures, see how you like (Got most of a DBA army of these, last year, US distributer closed out line, got very good deal. When I finish Middle Romans and Palmyrans, then will figure whether they or Early Crusaders or Tang Chinese are 'next in line').
Anyway, am planning converting empty 'packing tape' cardboard center to Pictish broach (Don't laugh - fits in DBA BUA area, and is In Scale!)
New smartphone just acquired, when I figure out how to get good pics from camera, will have report up.
Good Luck!

Hi jdesmond, thanks for your response.😊 I'm a fan of Outpost miniatures having some in my Ghaznavid,Rajput and Timurid armies already and am considering the Outpost Pict spearmen if I expand the army to cover the (b) list.I've opted for essex minuatures this time as they do offer several poses and have the Irish allied figures. I don't knock anyone who knocks-up scratch built terrain as most of which I've seen is top quality. Good luck with all your projects. Regards Eddie

Curious what you used for the standing stones in your Camp? Looks very spiff.

OK, I finally did find my army of SPLM Picts (painted by Paul Potter). www.flickr.com/photos/76644443@N02/15792490483/in/dateposted-public/Pardon my crappy photography but you should be able to discern multiple monoliths from the Amazon Stonehenge kit. You should be able to make out a couple of ravens flying around as well. The square block in an edifice (ruined temple). Hope all this helps! A
