Interesting HOTT items.
As a matter of interest, the left flag does not appear to have a single star in the centre, but possibly three, is this deliberate?

In the past it has always been a full open, anything legal goes.
It pays if going with friends to register early, that way they try to get you into different groups.
Good selection of trade stands, and I have used the bring-and-buy, but will have to see this year as it is a new venue.

My books are still in store, so I cannot check this information.
I seem to remember a book with the origin of these in, I think the suggestion was of a person in an earlier style armour, and just one wing.

It is a fun competition, hard on the brain, but a good sharp learning curve. You might even get to use every troop type if you are lucky, fixed terrain is fun.
Good luck to all players.

Thanks Martin, but I am deliberately not reading DBA3, so very limited ability.

Thanks people, getting old, memory playing tricks on occasions, but probably thinking of the quarterly as pawsbill says, used to do multiple armies from those lists.
Trying to avoid playing DBA3, all armies altered and based for DBA2.2 so I can do it solo, so sorry Colin no DBA3 of choice, not even taking an army.

To Colin H.
You said 5 (five) games + 2 (final four plus plate).
It used to be 3 (three) + 2. So has it changed, or was this just a one-off.

I am moving out while the house is being fully refurbished (badly in need of). Lucky in that I have a niece living within 20 miles (32 km), two things I have found interesting, the number of DBA figures I have unpainted, more interesting that I have THREE (3) full sets of paints by different manufacturers, where I would expect one. The field mice object to being disturbed, and I think one has left home. David Constble As a follow up to this original post.
Why my parents and I have not been killed in the last 34 ish years I do not know. We found a lead gas pipe, partially melted, could have gone at anytime. The original 1935 wiring is still in place, still connected, an electric drill would complete the circuit, and there was NO earth on the electrics AT ALL until two years ago. We found out where the Field Mice came in from, there is a narrow flue to the kitchen we did not know about. The hotel fire at Exeter recently showed the builder and my nieces why we need to put in fire protection between ourselves and next door, one wall is still medieval.

Thinking about history and about the ghostly elephants at Arbela/Gaugamela (I am doing an OOB for 2mm Irregular Miniatures blocks).
I would love to see a wargame in 1000 years time of Kursk 1943AD, with the German elephants with six crew advancing, tusks with metal protectors, squashing people underfoot.

Hi Mark If I can get 6/8 + people to bring their toys to Bakewell and throw some dice, I'd be more than happy to put on Midlands Open and then perhaps a later weird themed one a bit like the LH and Arty one last year. I am just looking to see how the 2017 DBA calendar is developing so that I don't clash with events tied to major shows or other well embedded tournaments. Regards. Simon After dismounting LH last year, might it be worth banning any dismounting?

In the original Midland Open we banned book 4 from memory, due to dismounting knights, so not a full open.
Cannot remember what MM did, you might want to check.

Sorry the post totally missed out the text below, I hope.
What is history, and when does it start?
Sorry this is a bit out of subject, it is not about DBA or warfare, just random thoughts.
Last week with some friends I went down a country lane in the UK, I have not been down the lane for 35 years. You used to be able to see buildings, fields, woods etc, no longer, the hedge and trees are now so bad that you can tell if a house is there only if you stop and look over the front gates. In 300 years most of the trees and bushes will have gone, and the view will be what I remember.
Now in 300 years if somebody reads my account, it will be correct, but one written this year will be wrong, as a source will it be ignored or considered dubious?
This set me thinking about the old Fanaticus sight and all the information stored on computers etc, how much will be lost, how much has already been lost in old Victorian books.

I think if you want to do it for yourself for a battle or campaign that is fine. However, if you wanted to do it for DBA in general, then I think you need to think DBMM
The DBMM rules should give you what you want, plus it is a tried and tested system. That is an all encompassing statement, I know, and I have no doubt DBMM players could shoot me down, but I still think DBMM is the better start point.
