That game was an expansion on DBM... and is now I think out of print. It was put out by a company that worked closely with WRG. Our product is more DBA based and is a completely different product.
I hope this helps.

I’ve read (but not played) the old DBF. It is exactly as others have said, to DBM as HOTT is to DBA. I don’t think that level of complexity and fiddliness is really appropriate to a fantasy game where two different groups might have very different ideas about how, say, Elves, ought to behave on the table, but it could be mined for ideas to customize armies, particularly if using keyword-based rules like A Game of Knights and Knaves.

Understood. FWIW, I agree that DBA is a superior basis for fantasy games (over DBM).
I have spent a few days digesting the draft (thanks medievalthomas) and have made copious notes, up to the terrain section. More to go...

I too am very interested as I'd been pondering my own low fantasy mini-campaign, one set in a world of my own creation but my problem was HOTT was not 'historic' enough and DBA not pulpy enough either. These rules sound very interesting though I'd probably play with HOTT's 12ish bases rather than 30.

You can play DBF with different points values, you don't have to go to BBBDA sorts of levels of army size. Playtesting, I was mostly around 24+ elements, though, and I don't know if others have tried it with fewer elements.

Ive played a few games with timr using standard dba v3 lists. We worked out a dba points value using the standard lists then added extra elements to equalise the points values again using the army lists as a guide. If that didn’t work (I.e the odd extra point), we upped both v3 lists to a value where both could have an equal number of points as such our games involved 12-15 elements and worked very well - at last my ancient British stood a chance against their Roman enemies. In practice this meant we didn’t add more core/heavy elements than the lists allowed but padded the army out with lighter troops which felt quite realistic. K

I too tested with armies of 8 to 15 elements. The rules work fine. I think it would be nice to have some guidelines in the rules on how to do that size of game.

I def want a GW like 200 pages of fluff having no bearing on the game whatsoever. Oh and adverts, dont forget some adverts. Very mindful we are not creating a coffee table book. Diagrams have full art but illustrate game points. Occasional picture to fill out page space. I don't like flipping through rulebooks padded with pictures trying to find a rule. TomT Just qurious: do you use photos of figures, or illustrations? And if the latter, who is the artist?

It will be photos for ‘effect’ and illustrations for rule diagrams - just a combination of PowerPoint and web graphics P

Anything new on this? I managed to get in a game day with my son yesterday, and the topic came up as we are eagerly awaiting this …

I saw that a big post was made in the FB groups regarding playtest sessions. Sounds like it's getting close, which is exciting. I now feel comfortable in DBA, and will be focusing on HOTT soon. I'll probably feel comfortable(-ish) just in time for this to arrive.
