We got the great news over the weekend that Phil Barker (aka the Supreme Being) has reviewed the DBF project and approved.
I had some worries over the radical overall of the presentation style but as usual Phil proves surprisingly accepting of new ideas.
Lots of playtesting and fine tuning ahead (and of course edit/comments for WRG) but I think the company is now firmly committed to modernizing the rules and getting out a product that can compete on the open market and provide a vehicle for bringing in new players (which we could use...)
There is nothing (well in gaming) that I enjoy more than bringing our beautiful system to more players. Historically based High Fantasy is a great potential market and is easily converted to a pure historical game.
Just had two fantastic Big Battle games over the weekend (Vamperilla v. Lady of the Lake - or Vampire Lords v. Franconia). So playtests going well.
Its a great time to be a DBX gamer!

Great news!
Out of interest, are you familiar with ADLG with respect to its layout and presentation?

Great news! Out of interest, are you familiar with ADLG with respect to its layout and presentation? Yep, we’ve adopted some of their ideas for use in the final presentation of DBF. P

Good.
Also, can't emphasize enough the importance of eye candy (sharp colour photos of well painted miniatures with good terrain, etc.), either sprinkled lavishly throughout, or as centre spreads.
Grognards may not care, but newcomers will.

I def want a GW like 200 pages of fluff having no bearing on the game whatsoever. Oh and adverts, dont forget some adverts.

I want to roll 54 of them every minute of the game and then allow my opponent saving throws. Plus please don’t bother with play-testing the rules - that simply isn’t as important as the fluff - besides we’ll change it all next year via a CODEX when new figures are released.

How about a stripped down, spartan, no illustrations, printer friendly, black/white pdf download option?

Also don't forget to split the army lists down into 5 separate time frames, fill them with lots of colour pictures and make them hardbacked so you can charge £15 each for them so the total package comes to about £100 to play before you even get the figures!

I always thought command re rolls on a scratch off card, each one you used you scratch off. When you have used all five you need to buy a new card.
I will however say that much as I like a few GW targeted jokes I know I would probably not be wargaming if they had not got me hooked and the whole gaming scene would be much smaller without their input.

I guess this could be a bit of a "what did the Romans ever do for us" debate but one might argue that GW:
Maintained a significant wargaming presence on the high street Encouraged young people to get into wargaming and provided instore facilities for painting models and playing games Led the way in high quality plastics as an alternative to lead. Set the standard in terms of clear, well-written and professionally presented rules.
Cheers
