Thanks Baldie - a good looking army. I’ve looked at the Philistines before as an effective army but you post has made me look at them as a “quick to paint” army. 28 foot figures each with 3, max 4 block colours each. I reckon that at a push I could paint that in about 5-6 hours. The Chariots are more difficult and would take longer but also simple - even if they take and hour each then basing it all in an hour means that I could turn that army round in 9-10 hours - competing with my Islamic Berber army which I turned round in just under 10 hours. In short I could probably do that in a weekend - I might give that a try!

Sweet Jesus, I must be one of the most inefficient painters around. I think I took at the bare minimum 30 hours (most likely much more), to paint my Philistine army, and mine probably is nowhere near as good a paint job as you will probably get.

Yes - I think 10 hours is doable for those Philistines. My Islamic Berber took less than 10 hours: fanaticus.boards.net/thread/1463/iii-75-islamic-berber. They were 22 Foot and 14 Mounted.....so 50 pieces in all. In Baldie’s Philistine Army I count 44 pieces with only 4 horses - so I reckon an easier army to paint. Plus the colour palette is no more difficult than the Berbers and no flags and little or no drilling out for wire spears. However, let me set out the terms & conditions - I take the start point as bare metal, deflashed and glued onto temporary painting bases. The end point as painted to a good Wargames standard and table ready. The clock runs when I’ve got brush, scalpel, glue or spray can in hand but doesn’t count drying time or making a coffee or getting the paints out etc. I’ve got a few projects that I must finish first - but I’ll give this one a go - probably in the autumn.

Thanks for the link to your Berber army.
Impressive for 10 hours of pure painting.

The Wends (III/1a) are now on the painting table. The eleven elements should be completed at the end of next week.

Whose figures are you using for your Wends?

3 mixed PK elements of Essex MER40 & 41 - the MER40s pikes slant significantly to their right. This ends up weighting the figures to the left to keep from having the pikes extend too far over the edge of the base. Having the MER41s st the sides gives the elements a more evenly spaced look.
Also an PS element of MID61 slingers for the Feudal English and a CB element of TTG Genoese for the HYW French.

The Wend (III/1a) are finished and will be varnished later today. I will post photos next week of all three armies; the Rus, Early Polish and the Wend. Next project – the Melnibonean.

Next project – the Melnibonean.
What's that??? Elric of Melniboné by Michael Moorcock was the inspiration behind my Imagi-nation Elves set in the 18th century. This was one of the first projects when I began blogging, so the original figures will undergo changes befitting an improved painting style.

2 LB elements using Essex MER-16&18.
And another 3WB general for the Britons or Gauls.

Recently finished a Mongol Conquest and a Burmese. The only thing left to do is the bases. Lots of bases!

I've had a long break from the brushes - two weeks ago I had a few appointments that meant short days so no long lunch to paint. Last week I was at home looking after an ill wife.
With that all cleared up I went along to "Crafternoon" at my local Geek Bar (The Copper Dragon) and caught up with an old friend whilst enjoying a mug of mulled wine and banged out 1x3Wb and 1x4Ax for my Later Tang.
Today I followed that up with completing 1xLH (Numidian) and 1xLCm for my Early Imperial Roman. This was an army I bought already painted for 2.2 so I will have a bit of an issue trying to match the basing. I may need to apply some additional stuff to the existing bases and try to make them all look like a common group.
Cheers
