Two more armies are now Purple Compliant
Today I finished off the 4x3Ax for Nan Chao and the last Cv element for my Mongol Conquest. This brings my collection of fully Purple Compliant armies up to 55 including 6 purpose built projects where I started the army after the publication of DBA3 and made it up to be a DBA3 army.
For the 49 that were conversions from old armies it includes 5 that had no change at all and one where the change was to reclassify existing elements (IV/37c Javanese LCh = CWg and 3Bw = 3Lb). A further 5 were converted by removing elements from the army - which allowed one other (III/19b South Welsh) to inherit the excess Ps/Lb from the North Welsh.
The other 37 required painting elements to come up to code. Originally I planned to bring in new elements for all armies so that I could have dual purpose 2/3 armies and also do a big photograph of the 300+ discards in the boneyard. However as time went on I compromised and have started feeding in elements already painted to new armies where it is appropriate and I can either get them off their base or just replace the flocking over the top
There are still about 50 armies to go as well as the vast number of projects in the lead mines of Mt Neverpaint. This year I went all out to bring my 13 Army Yuan era campaign set up to code. It required painting the Eureka Nan Chao purchased as part of the original 300 club subscription for the range, and in doing so inspired me to re-do the Siamese and Medieval Vietnamese. At this stage I have to finish off the Early Samurai (lots more Cv and 6Cv), the Turfan Uihgur as well as the two do over projects. If all goes well the full set will be done before the campaign (South China Warning Post) ends in November/December this year.
Cheers

Eric Donaldson, Seattle, just completed a "Purple" renovation of these II/9 Syracusans (15mm Essex). No decals, guys. He hand-painted every one of those shields. Note, especially, the Gorgon's Head at the far right. Wow. Another, close-up view here. They took the field last night against my LHG-Thebans. At-start positions here, with an in-game photo, below. Thebes won the see-saw battle, 5-3. (My apologies for the unflocked bases of my renovated, LHG-Thebans, sporting the new 8Sp Theban Phalanx. I finished painting only an hour before game-time.)

The shield patterns are impressive.
How did you like using the 8Sp?

Good stuff, Paul. I personally love painting shields.

Another army is purple compliant Today the last LH required to bring my III/11a Uighur Turks up to code was finished along with an new Cv general (an outpost Central Asian Turk prince - heavily modelled on the Uighur Prince in Osprey Elite Attila and the Nomad Hordes). Cheers

Finished the solid pikes for my Nanzhou army last night. Tony, presumably, you're using Eureka's un-shielded spearmen figures ( Eureka code 300NCO04) for the Fast Pike elements, right? That's my plan, at least, as I reorg and renovate my III/376 Nan-Chao for Purple. -- Yet another army that's gotten more interesting in V-3. A rare mix of Solid and Fast Pikemen... Not sure how I'm going to use them, but it should be a fun challenge.

I suspect I will always use them as 3Pk, however, because that is the version of the army that is more unique for me - since I already have other Ax armies.

So today's effort was to complete 1x3Bd, 1x3Wb and 1x3Ax for my Siamese. This puts me in the position of having 6 strips of barely touched troops in the painting tray so it will be a while before I grace this thread with announcing new completions. However I will try and get pix of my Nan Chao up here soon Cheers

As summer is here painting is on the back burner. Allotment to attend to, garden to keep tidy and long walks on the coast to do!

I have similar conditions but leave the Garden until the wife gets up.😉 Since I rise earlier than she does I use the "quality" time to paint,read/research or watch documentaries until she graces me with her company.😊

I wish.... Sadly this is only temporary as I am recovering from back problems and once recovered such wonderful circumstances will be relegated to time-off and weekends.

And today my Medieval Vietnamese are nominally closer to being up to Purple Code.
I finished off 1x4Bw and 1xPs which are the new additions to III/60 in DBA3, I just have to add the extra Cv element - but in truth the Vietnamese journey has only just begun.
I also added a new 1x3Wb to the mix and will soon be painting new elements for the 4x4Ax,and in looking at the 3xPs for the army I think I need to replace one of them.
I will be rebasing the other old elements and the jury is out as to whether I should replace the El in the process.
Cheers

Twelve elements that will form the Baghdad Buyid Army are primed and ready for the brush. That will be the first order of business tomorrow.

As promised - here are my Nan Chao. These boys serve to emphasise just how good Tony Aguilar is. As I said once of one of my talented friends - "I am not worthy to loosen the polythene tube that protects the point of his brush."
The army is comprised of Eureka Miniatures Nan Chao - I was one of the original group that placed an order in the 300 club all those years ago. This army represents a major improvement in the overall way I prepare my armies. Firstly I have taken the advice of Greg Kelleher and give the finished figures a once over with a very watered down mix of black and brown.
The ground is crushed white pumice heaped on within PVA glue. I bought the sand at MOAB many years ago, quite a significant load of it. Once the figures are glued to the base I paint the base in the chosen ground colour (in this case Kaiser Colour's "Mud Puddle") then smear the base with PVA glue, adding the rocks and logs, and soak this overnight in the pumice. The following day I paint the dried ground with the ground colour. When this is dry I add in some tufts and put down traces of PVA glue and then put the base in a tray with the brown gravel (I bought this from a model railway shop, it is called ballast).
The twigs and rocks that I use for broken ground come from scraping up the debris from the nests of Australian Meat Ants which are extremely common hereabouts.
The tufts are by Leadbear - and these are the best product of their kind. There you have it - David Lawrence DBA World Champion 2013 gives his endorsement to Leadbear's Tufts
Here is the army arrayed
The General with the Cavalry
And the Foot Guards - including the 4Bd General
To distinguish between 4Pk and 4Bd I chose to give the big shield only to the Bd. Only after I had finished off the first Pk element did I take delivery of the new Essex Tang figures and so put a General figure into the mix. This figure is the only non Eureka Miniatures contribution to the army.
Cheers
