Get your questions in then. Ha! I have a question for you Tony... ...in the six games you commanded the II/13 Samnites, why did you deploy them in one long line with no reserves? Now I’m no fan of 4Ax (!), but surely if anyone needs reserves to plug the gaps that will inevitably appear it’s the auxiliaries. (Six battles, six times no reserves, and six defeats. I’m not saying having reserves will win...but not having them don’t help) I am not a fan of getting flanked especially when a unit such as Aux already has combat value that get very small when a -1 is applied to them. All of us have a different playing style, and I am a big fan of flanking. Also at pace of 2BW Solid Aux are not able to react laterally very well. I do like playing with reserves but they are almost always Kn or Cv for this role. I will bring up reserves in the next Q&A whenever that will be.

Started watching the chat, enjoyed it and will listen to rest whilst painting. Really two chums chatting should be in a cosy pub, sitting in Chesterfield chairs with a brandy to hand but these are difficult times.

Here's a question for your discussion Tony: Do you have any particular armies that tend to either a) under perform or b) over achieve? For me a) would be my DBM Umayyad/Abbasid Arab army. A nice balance of cav, spears, bow and light troops which I bought painted but have never won a game with it. [This could prompt another question, do troops fight better for you if you've bought and painted them yourself? In other words, should you be wary of Samnites bearing gifts?] I would also suggest another contender for a) as Alexandrian Macedonian, which I think won worse performing army twice in a tournament here in the UK where you use other peoples armies, so most players had a chance with it but it still came bottom. b) has to be a Libyan DBA army (10 Ax or Ps) which actually won a tournament.

My candidate for the under-achiever is the Mongol army. Historically they conquered the world but under DBA they can’t win a game.
My over-achiever is the Zanj Revolt. Historically a minor event but a winning army under DBA.
Just my 2p!

I am going to suggest that going forward any questions be posted directly on the last Youtube video, so that nothing gets overlooked. I can see checking that this forum, person emails/PM AND the comments section of the previous video something is going to be left off.

Big Al and the Macs are rough in DBA 3. I went from winning multiple tournaments with them in version 2... Back to middle of the pack with version 3. As discussed before...the changes in the army list, the change in the power of Auxilia, and the change to Blades all overpower the increase in strength of Pike. Minor changes to Ax and Pk help...but the change to Blades remains a difficulty... especially when fighting Romans. Joe Collins

Three new videos uploaded over the last two days. An unboxing, a Q&A session and a series of battles focusing on Joe Kohten's new army, the Eastern Franks. Hi Tony. I think you were right initially with the river placement (Game 1) in that it can only go through one other quadrant as it is a linear feature (p6; para 4 "A Gentle Hill may, and all Plough and linear features must, extend into 1 only adjacent quarter") Why this is the case, beats me. Maybe PB doesn't like his toast cut diagonally? Cheers Jim

Thank Gorc for that, I was wondering how many more 40K battle reports I could stand.

I have a question about ice in whiskey, but fear I will be abused if I ask it... P.

Good Irish Whiskey requires no ice! Only Scottish Whisky requires watering 😉
I have a question about ice in whiskey, but fear I will be abused if I ask it... P.
Yeah, I require ice in everything I drink except beer, wine, soup, etc. It is frickin' hot here!
