The first video shot last night involved the Athenians and the Spartans fighting in the Peloponnesian War. youtu.be/3j3ci2EQkeAHi Tony, Really enjoying these videos. A quick question about the Cv fleeing in this one (Athenians vs Spartans): My reading is that the 180 turn happens first, and THEN a full tactical move (i.e. for 3Cv, that's 4BW) from it's front edge. BUT you guys were talking in the video that the tactical move is from the front edge of the 3Cv BEFORE it turns 360. Which now that I think about it, make complete sense. So checking that the way you guys played it is the way I should be playing it (i.e. official). He hit bad going anyway so stopped fleeing, so it didn't make much difference but I wanted to check regardless. Thanks again for these videos. Chris

Chris Not sure who said what, but I can tell you that according to the rules when fleeing: The unit turns 180 degrees in place and THEN moves straight forward... In the video: it's here: 21:54. I think you played it as being turning 180 and then measuring from the front edge. Your opponent (Mitch I think? Sorry if I'm messing up on his name) I think stated that you measure from the original front edge. Again, it didn't matter because of the Bad Going, but wanted to clarify. It sounds like your original interpretation of turn 180, THEN move a full move is the real McCoy. Thanks again, Chris

Yes, that is how it is supposed to be played and how we have played it in the past. I can tell you one of the problems with videos is due to editing, interruptions, etc., sometimes when doing things in game the "verbal elaboration" does not match with what you actually do. I have seen several situations in the past where if one of us had not elaborated, we would not have misspoken.

Another question came up watching the video about Polybian Romans vs Later Carth: www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYThI--o8-8&t=19m51sA 3Cv recoiled away to get out of the Threat Zone of a flanking 2LH. Does touching the Threat Zone of an element mean it is "IN" the threat zone? The rules only talk about the front edge, but I'm assuming since the front corner would be touching the theat zone that this would also count as "moving through or touching". Is that correct? Thanks again! Chris

I am no expert of DBA rules, as I am sure you are aware, but from what I have seen from the diagrams and from previous posts, if an element is touching a threat zone, no matter which way it is facing, it is in "the threat zone".

We probably live far apart, but who knows, if we could find a geographically and mutually affordable tourney location, I would certainly be up for it! Would love it!

I am no expert of DBA rules, as I am sure you are aware, but from what I have seen from the diagrams and from previous posts, if an element is touching a threat zone, no matter which way it is facing, it is in "the threat zone". Well. sort of...
The Threat Zone rules have an unfortunate error.
This error was corrected in an earlier version of the rules, but slipped back into the text at a later date... undetected till the proof had gone to the publisher.
The text should read...
"The area 1 BW deep in front of any edge of a War Wagon or the front edge of any other element, or the area within 1 BW of any point of a camp, city or garrisoned fort is its Threat Zone (TZ). An element or group which is at least partly inside or whose front edge enters an enemy TZ or touches its far edge can move only:"
"Within" is hard defined by Phil as touching.
This change means that you can touch the side edges of a threat zone and not be restricted. Further, only the far edge of the threat zone counts. Phil recognizes a difference between "edges" and "corners". This means that you can be in single corner contact and not be restricted. You are technically not affected by the threat zone as you are not touching the front edge, only the front corner.
Please note that this error also occurs in HoTT 2 and 2.1. Luckily for the HoTT players it is superseded by a diagram that overrules the error and shows folks the correct way to play.
I hope this helps.

If you're ever in the Bay Area California, North Bay around Benicia, send me a ping! My hard to fight with Carthaginians are itching for their first fight

Where all my paint comes from! 🙃 Note to self: On winning the lottery plan a round the world trip to play DBA with as many Fanatici who would be up for it! Anyone else interested?

Def happy to win the lottery. Very large table, umpires chairs and 1:1 scale troops.

Anyone else interested? It is indeed right next door to Vallejo, but no hobby store There's only 1 close and it's down in Concord. But definitely in favor of a DBA World Tour.
