The latest project, Under the Black Banner, have the Arab Indian listed as an enemy of the Abbasid and these have ‘Tropical’ as home terrain. The few ‘tropical’ features I currently have, were constructed for the gunpowder variant DBA-HX3 and are unfortunately of a lower standard than what I use for the ancient game. Of the terrain items listed, rivers, marsh, gully (recently made) and road meet the current standard so I need only refurbish the wood, enclosures and BUA to complete the tropical terrain list.
Woods I had plenty of palm trees as extra stock and decided not to re-do the existing pieces, but I would construct new ones. These will follow the same method of construction as the palm trees made for the recent project, the oasis. Similarly based, the trees will be separate from undergrowth to allow the latter to be used as scatter material along the banks of a river or around a village.
I have a dozen bases cut which will have two sets of palm trees and these will be finished in the same manner as the oasis types with Milliput covered with a mix of white glue and sand. This is tedious work requiring long periods of time for glue or Milliput to set, but will allow me time to consider what kind of ‘enclosures’ and BUA would be suitable for the Sind.

...there are not so many on my boards but i like it... I usually fill a wood area with three bases of trees or in this case palm trees. Any not used will be scattered near villages or river banks. Photos look much better.

Tropical terrain - Woods The dozen bases of palm trees are done. These were covered with Milliput, later covered with a white glue – sand mix, painted and dry brushed. The fronds were also treated to tone down the shiny green finish.
Next on the list are some scatter material and fields appropriate for a tropical setting.

The "before" and "after" shots are very impressive, Robert. Yes, those plastic palm trees, straight out of the box (or bag), usually need a help. Your finished-product looks much more realistic.

I need to take photos of the fields and scatter pieces that were made recently.
I held off doing so as I need to restock my supply of Milliput. The next project in this series is a Hindu Temple modelled after the one in Aihole. www.ancient.eu/image/3966/

Robert, have you attempted to simulate rice paddies (Enclosures)?

Robert, have you attempted to simulate rice paddies (Enclosures)? Yes.
Photos latter, but I used clear acetate (1mm thick) and painted the underside a mottled brown and green. On the top I glued electrostatic grass to simulate walk-ways framing the rectangular shaped fields.
I am happy with the 'enclosure' at this stage, but I suppose you could complete the 'planting' by adding rows of dark green grass?
