When you have a second element providing a rear support bonus, and the front element is destroyed (like 2 LH in column)

Does the supporting element is destroyed too ? Or should he only recoil?

If there is an ennemy on the flank, yes. But when there's no ennemy?

I think not, but some people disagree with me.

The front LH is destroyed. This will happen even on a flee result as he cannot flee through the supporting element though he could recoil through it on a recoil result. AFAIK the front LH would be destroyed on a recoil result if there was a 3rd element in the column.

There is no mention of the supporting element in any of the combat results so it stay's where it is. As you've already noted a flanking element would ensure both were destroyed.
