I'm cooking up a Battle of Raphia (217 BC) DBA-3 scenario for our group's game-night next week, featuring African armies. II/19b Seleucid vs. II/20b Ptolemaic, with each army sporting not one, but two, Jumbos. Here's a view of the Ptolemies below. (All vintage Mikes Models, of course. But just recently spiffed up for the event.) It's said to have been one of the largest battles of the Hellenistic era, and Raphia was apparently the first (and only) time that Indian Jumbos squared off against the now-extinct, North African species. Every schoolboy who read his Polybius knows which was the superior war elephant and which was the knock-off. But did they know that in 217 BC? This scenario will play up that uncertainty. Here's a view of the Ptolemaic deployment on this featureless plain. (If you counted 14 elements, that is correct.) I'll playtest it later this weekend to make sure it all works, and will post after-action reports and pics later.

I had considered collecting a Ptolemaic army, but chose to increase the Seleucid to big battle proportions for a re-fight of Magnesia 197 BC. The camps were the last items on the to-do list. This should be ready to play at the end of the month.

How did the game play out Paul? I don't recall seeing any photos or a general summary of the game.
