Its good to see the Renaissance section on the new site. I play Renaissance games frequently using DBR. The majority of my games are played in an evening time slot and often are based around 300 points which provides a balance between the time available and figures on the table. The armies are in general similar in size to BBDBA, around 36 elements. I've included a couple of photos of one of our more recent games here. The armies are 15mm Roundheads against Scots Covenantors. Above, veteran Roundheads engage in a firefight on the English left. Below, a more general view of the battle. For those interested feel free to visit my Renaissance blog. renaissancewargaming.wordpress.com

Nice looking game.
I like DBR for my 6mm ECW armies. It is a little more complex than DBA RRR, and of course, because it is points based you can play a wide range of game sizes. These days I tend to go for 100+ point games using the condensed scale.

Those look excellent. Do I spot Essex figures? Most of the figures in my post above are veteran Mike's Models. My opponent has a number of Peter Pig ECW which can be seen in some of the photos above. I have a mix of Essex and Mike's Models in my Royalist army. Other figures can comprise different manufacturers depending on the army. it is great to see some other people's figures here. The Landsnechts look very good.

The Landsnechts look very good. Ah! Some of them just reminded me of the Essex "style" I guess. When I managed the miniatures department (very large) I inventoried so many Essex figures I was close to memorizing codes which meant that...well...after seeing so many wonderful figures I just HAD to buy 2 very large (at least 36 elements each) armies of Mid-Later 17th Century Polish and Ottoman.

I have a load of ECW figs which were originally painted for DBR but one of my issues with V2 of the rules as the tenancy to have huge lines of troops vs. more units on the table. The table often does not look very much like an ECW battle - unless players purposely try to play that way.
So that and lack of local people playing in the end I have moved away from DBR onto other rules such as FOG:R and Pike and Shotte etc. I like the idea of DBR but the execution is not as great as it could be. I can teach and play a decent game of Pike and Shotte with a load of figs on the table much quicker than DBR.

I believe by the end of this year I will rekindle the period by collecting Polish and Russians of 1670.
Along with Legio Heroica Totentanz Miniatures (Spain) make a fine line of Cossacks.

I have just played my first game of DBR and really enjoyed it. Is this part of the fanaticus site a good place to post DBR rules questions, or is there a better place? The Yahoo site does not look very active.
Thanks

I wouldn't be opposed to having a DBR sub section here. Although for some reason I keep trying to make Armati work for Renaissance, I actually like DBR much more. I also feel that DBA 3 actually derives most of its changes from DBR rather than from DBMM.
