With all the armies now complete for the DBA Northern cup 2021, bar some tidying up of bases on a few older elements, I'm turning my attention to preparation for the Northern Cup in 2024. I know, keen or what... Inspired by Kennedy's 'The Great Arab Conquests' and Crawford's 'The War of the Three Gods', the theme will be the middle east conflicts between 600-1000AD. As this is a period for which I have few current armies, it means buying and painting figures for 15 new armies and morphing the early Byzantines, Sassanids and Normans that I currently have for the other 5... oh, dear, better crack on! So, I've placed an order for a big batch of metal from a combination of Donnington, Essex, Lancashire Games and Old Glory (via Timecast), which should cover 4 of the Islamic Arab armies, the Later Pre-Islamic Arabs, the Thematic, Nikephorian and Konstantinian Byzantine armies and the conversions needed for the Sassanids and the Early Byzantines. This will allow me to build 11 of the 20 armies needed. I'm going to be one busy boy for the next four years ;-) P. Bugger me Paul! That's certainly a very tall order. Kudos to you for taking on such a huge project. Cheers, He’s a Marathon Man, in many respects, Greg.....going the extra mile is never a problem 😊 M

Salutations !
The folk at ScaleCreep seem to be selling off their stock of BattleModels ancients quite cheaply. Have ordered about a dozen packs, almost sight unseen. The pictures I've found online seem to indicate that they're at least 'value for money', but anyone with experience painting them is invited to speak up.

Alternative Armies is raising prices on some of their lines, including the HOT fantasy, so I ordered 2 packs of Goblin Wolf Riders to provide some mounted for my Orcs.
And, for amusement, picked up three more of the 'Seasonal' HOTT army - Jack Frost, Abominable Snow Monsters (have some more of these to use as yetis for my Tibetans when they play D3H2), Evil Snowmen, Killer Xmas Trees, Psycho Presents, and Brutal Gingerbread Men.
Figure to give one to my nephew and still have a 72 pointer.

Rejoined - after a couple of decades - the Society of Ancients, and have ordered the DVD of 50 years of Slingshot.
If, during this quarantine, I finish reading through that, will start on War and Peace...

My order from Magister Militum was sent off yesterday, and will be interesting to see how long it takes to arrive. The order is to make a Syrian army, and I am really looking forward to painting them up.
Now, thanks to timurilank providing a link for a list of 15mm suppliers, I am off to make an order through Lancashire Games, and pick up some relatively cheap Biblical figures, which will be used to bulk up various armies.

Popped in an order for the following from Lancashire Games:
AB25 - Heavy Infantry Speamen AB27 - Auxilliary Spearmen AB28 - Auxilliary Archers AB53 - Shieldless Spearmen AB51 - Infantry with Spears SP31 - Light Cavalry with Bow
All Biblical except for the Cavalry, which are listed as Ancients - Hunnic, but I want to see if I can use these dudes for Skythians / Kimmerrians.
At 57% the cost of Essex figures and 53% the cost of Magister Militum figures and a fraction of the shipping cost of either supplier, I am interested to see how the Lancashire figures compare.

Hit the Marketplace at TMP and saw some Eureka 13c Spanish listed. Turned out to be 73 Almughavars for $20 (including shipping) seemed like a good deal and I need some for my Feudal Spanish so I picked them up.

Pleased to see I'm not alone in being bitten by the buying bug during these inside times. ( curse of the internet is the ease of buying things it would have taken ages to locate in the 'old days'. Last three weeks have been a bit if a binge ( but all with purpose) Ordered many packs of Essex late medieval models to flesh out current 15th century armies, but discovered ala carte is pricier than what I can by some armies for I started hunting down army deals ( there are quite a few at the moment) Bought a Fields of Glory Essex Medieval French army deal, ( half off), Essex Anglo-Norman DBA army, Loose bag of OG Teutonic Knights, an OG medieval camp set, and a large job lot of Old Jacobite Miniatures Renaissance models for pennies on the dollar. Lastly I'm patiently waiting for my Petes Flags 15mm banners to arrive in the post later this month.

I've just ordered some Donnington New Era figures to flesh out the Anglo-Normans that I'm about to commence.
Cheers,

I think the cumulative posts of 6mm gaming by Baldie pushed me over the edge, and I ordered my first two 6mm Ancient armies, today. I really like the look of Baccus miniatures, but they have quite the queue for filling orders, so went with Irregular. I have been using 6mm scale terrain for my 15mm armies anyway, so almost half way there

When the question was posted about Xyston compatibility, I decided to look at US suppliers to see who carried them.
One of them was Noble Knight - no Xyston, but some good deals in their Essex and Alternative Armies lines.
So I ordered a Northern and a Southern Dynasty army, some heavy cav to flesh out the figures I already had to those armies, some Serb spearmen, a Shang light chariot, Alans, Khazars, a Dracci army pack, additional dragons and Dracci infantry and artillery to build toward a 72 point army, some more Feudal Spanish knights and infantry, and a couple packs of Old Kingdom menfat.
Should let me flesh out a number of armies.
