The 62 Beja infantry are on their bases (8 x 3Bw, 6 x 3Ax, 4 x 4Bd, 2 x Ps) and texturing will begin when the cavalry are painted up. Work has begun preparing and cleaning 32 Arab and Beja cavalry, undercoating later tonight. The cavalry figures are done (4 x Cv, 10 x LH) and texturing their bases will begin later today. Searching the net for suitable banners or flags is posing a slight problem. By the end of the 5th century, Makuria converted to Christianity (see Christian Nubian list) followed by Nobatia and Alodia. Christianity did reach the nomadic Beja but lacking permanent settlements, one could not truly say they were “washed in the blood of the lamb”. Suggestions for flags/banners are welcome. Google African symbols and you should be spoilt for choice.😉

I finished cleaning 53 leftover Muslim infantry; an assortment of Essex, Arab and Colonial ansar. These will form the Ahdath (7Hd) and Mutatawwia (5Hd) elements for most of the Muslim armies in the collection.
Painting them will begin tomorrow.

Battle of Calama
A battle report with photos can be found at the blog. This was a hard fought battle from begin to end with the result hanging in the balance to the final turn. Definitely worth a replay. dbagora.blogspot.com/2021/09/battle-of-coloma.html

All figures are now based and complete with groundwork. The 52 figures make 3 x Ps, 2 x fast horde, 4 x solid horde; ready to mix with existing Muslim armies. The solid horde are impressive looking on their deeper bases (40mm x 40mm) and extra figures.

Reading Gaiseric by Ian Hughes has stimulated work on a few scenarios; one is complete and tested, the second is in its draft form.
The first involves the late arrival of reinforcements which inspired an alternative to the usual die cast for turn and location of off table troops.
This should be posted to blog on Tuesday.

The Triakontaschoinos 275 BC
"Land of the Thirty Schoinoi" described a region dividing Ptolemaic Egypt from the Nubian kingdom of Meroe which served as a base for Nubian raids. The link leads to the campaign of Ptolemy II Philadelphus (284 BC – 246 BC) on the Egyptian frontier. dbagora.blogspot.com/2021/10/the-triakontaschoinos-275-bc.html

Gracchus in Celtiberia (179 BC) Gracchus would eventually triumph over the Celtiberians in 178 BC, however two engagements the previous year could have curtailed his moment of glory. The sketchy details of events are taken from Livy, History of Rome, Book XL 46 – 50. and form the basis for the two battles. Report with photos can be found with the link below. dbagora.blogspot.com/2021/10/gracchus-in-celtiberia-179-bc.html

Nice report.
"Like spectres rising up from the earth"
I especially liked that... in keeping with Halloween this Sunday!

Nice report. "Like spectres rising up from the earth" I especially liked that... in keeping with Halloween this Sunday! Nangwaya,Halloween? That had actually not crossed my mind, but it did convey the element of surprise the Celtiberians held in battle one.
