Going back to a situation I found myself in, during the recent DBA Open at PAWS - and a subsequent rule check this week....I found myself with a 3 element column, a seperate element, and another seperate element all in the same road at different locations. It would appear that I could have moved the Column AND each of the seperate elements forwards full move distance etc along the road without expending any PIPs for the 3 seperate moves, and then had any additional moves as rules and PIPs roles allowed....is that correct?

You are correct and this old thread from the original Fanaticus Forum will help further. www.fanaticus.org/discussion/showthread.php?t=17033&highlight=roads

Every element and group on the road is entitled to a first move for no pips. I even think that single elements can move backwards as first move for no PIPs All as long as the element is on the road and " the centre of their front approximately in the middle of the road, rather than being confined between the road edges. " This is what astride means.

Yes every element or Group can use road move for No PIPs as there first move. But I don't agree that elements can move backwards on a road.

Page 6, Player Initiative Point Dicing, second paragraph “In each bound, the first move of each single element or column uses 0 PIP’s if it is entirely by road, moves until it contacts enemy of friends or moves its full tactical move distance, and does not reverse direction. Each other tactical move uses 1 PIP.”

That is also my understanding. Strange enough we see little use of roads here.

But does that then also prevent a full move to the element's rear which does not involve any reversing of the direction of travel? And what about a 180 degree turn and then a full move along a road by a single element? Can that be done for 0 PIPs or not? It may be reversing its facing, but not the direction in which it travels during the bound.

Indeed, the original facing of an element does not imply the direction that it moves. Moving straight back is just a straight move, not a reversing move. The comment made by both of the posters above about Phil's wanting to prevent moving forward and backwards during the move to limit the distance traveled is exactly correct. Tom just forgot that.

As folks can gather... the FAQ team is split on moving backwards down a road... I quite disagree and don't allow it in my games or in the tournaments I run. It is expressly forbidden in the new DBMM 2.1 and has a diagram illustrating such. DBMM is not DBA of course... Folks are free to play it however they like. Phil is not answering... He obviously wants us to work out ourselves. Joe Collins

I think Phil answered by sending the diagram from DBMM 2.0 that made it clear you can't march backwards on a road.
I think he intended the reverse direction phrase to cover any backwards movement but I agree its not as clear as it should be.
I fixed it in D3H2 in accordance to Phil's wishes and intent.
