I watched this excellent video about a key battle in Irish history, youtu.be/Dtlpp7mBTLo?si=M9eG4JUD9AHkpNAL but I was left pondering how you might turn it into a DBA battle. The terrain seems easy enough but what about the forces, and arguably harder the tactics used. Thoughts? I was left wondering if something like Too Fat Lardies Dux Britaniarum might be better placed for the opportunities it allows for moral and heroics.

Hah! Clontarf! Turniptom, that's my last battle. To me it was a victory and a defeat. The vikings ran and drowned, and I was killed, and so my son. The end of my High kingdom, Eire fell back into civil war. And yet, it was the beginning of the end of viking rule...
But to put this battle into a DBA scenario will be hard work. At first glance I think it will never do, because everything is wrong: The strength of the armies, the ground, the position of the Irish camp and the Viking ships. If we put it all together there will always be the same result: the Irish never will win, and if you refought this battle a hundred times in DBA, you never would achieve anything like this victory. Be assured: We will have to put in a lot of thinking and adjustments to get this scenario really working.
Well, let's go. First we have to look at our armies and change their compositions in order to lessen the power of the Viking juggernaut. And second we must be very clever to find and place a terrain that makes the historical outcome at least possible...
O.k. then, what do you suggest?

Vikings have 11x4Bd. Norse Irish can get to 4x4Bd then mostly Ax. Not my area of history but Wikipedia suggests Vikings fought on both sides so may be Brian could loosen the purse strings and hire Viking allies. Now it's 11 v 7 in terms of 4Bd. Also, the proximity to the coast, the role of the sea and tide in the Annals, would allow for large areas of Marsh, methinks. This is not something that would be recorded as it was probably ubiquitous at the time.
So some Viking allies and lots of Marshland may give Brian a fighting chance?
Cheers
