BTW who is that chap on the coin in the headline of our forum? (He looks like my brother-in-law.)

On the previous iteration of this forum I believe that Mithridates was the avatar. Happy to be corrected if I'm misremembering.

I believe it is Vercengetorix - based solely on it being on the cover of a historical novel about same Gallic leader

Miniatures in 1/72 scaleWhat do you think of miniatures in 1/72 scale?
Do you use them?
If you do, what is your favourite BW?

If you do, what is your favourite BW? When I was trying, unsuccessfully, to lure my sons away from WH I used 1/72 figures based on 60mm frontage bases. Though, back in the days of 2.2, there was an Aussie who was able to base his 1/72 armies on 40mm frontage bases. But it was a very tight fit. Cheers,

If you do, what is your favourite BW? I use them almost exclusively! Mine are based on 60mm bases, per the recommended sizes for 25/28mm figures.

There’s some very nice kits I’ve looked at, but not as much variety as in 15mm I think Caesar has done some of my favorite ranges overall, though some of their stuff is out of production now and getting hard to find. Linear-A is one of the few companies putting out interesting new sets lately, though sometimes geared more towards dioramas and collectors than wargamers. HaT, on the other hand - not always the most exciting subjects or sculpting, but definitely aimed at the wargaming market. Unfortunately a lot of big manufacturers were based in either Russia or Ukraine. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) For anyone who's interested and not already familiar with it, plasticsoldierreview.com is a fantastic resource on the sets available in 1/72 (at least in plastic, as the name implies - when it comes to metals I've heard Newline spoken well of, but I've never tried any of their stuff.)

kaiphranos is spot on about "plastic soldier review" as an awesome resource. eBay is a good source for out of print sets of Caesar miniatures. Also Zvezda and Emhar make good miniatures, sometimes reprinted by some of the bigger companies like Revell, IMEX and Italeri. Armies with not too many exotic troop types works best. Popular periods are well catered for like Early Medieval Britain, Crusades, Classical and Hellenistic Greece, Republican and Imperial Rome, etc. I had collected a number of sets to do the Reconquista and the Teutonic crusades but shelved the idea and went back to 15mm. Too invested with other armies, terrain etc to change now.
Cheers
Jim
