Pencil me in as a possible contender all the way from Oz Diades - I have the green light from the women in my life and a boost to my travel funds.
Now that I know when I can start the long term planning.
BTW - I noticed that last year there was another event nearby within a week of the Cold Ash Clash. What are the chances I can take an extended break and get to two DBA competitions this year?
Cheers

Alright time to start the initial planning for operation AntipoDBA First to confirm the locations of the two most likely events ensuring that there aren't several places with the same name (believe me living in Australia you can find a place name repeated in every on of our states!) Cold Ash is the one in West Berkshire (near Thatcham/Newbury) Farnborough (for Warfare if I can stretch my stay for 3 weeks) is in the district of Rushmoor (just south of Reading) Flights look reasonbaly priced so starting to make bookings in a month or two is looking good. Of course I would like to pick the brains of the locals about some other practicalities further down the track - like getting from the airport (probs Heathrow) to Newbury (most likely where I'll stay for the first event) and then getting twixt Newbury and Cold Ash on the day. Cheers

Sounds about right, location-wise. We tend to navigate by Post Code (like a US zip code, or wotev you use in Aus.)
Cold Ash is RG18 9JH
Farnborough /Warfare is GU14 6TQ
Transport info will no doubt be available nearer the dates 🙂
(first time I played at the English DBA Open, at the time held in Farnborough, an American guy showed up about midday, he’d been to one of the other Farnboroughs, the one in Kent, around 60 miles or 1 hr 20 with average traffic away….ooops).

Last time I went to Cold Ash I stayed in a hotel in Newbury and got a taxi to Cold Ash on the Saturday morning. Will probably do the same this time, and we could share - Paul

Sounds Good Paul
I have my eye on a hotel in Newbury and plan to start making firm bookings next month or thereabouts.
So I'm keen to attend Diades, looking forward to meeting you all
Cheers

I will seriously be looking at joining Macbeth as well. Two Blades from Down Under! The lengths you pair will go to for practice games for Landwaster!

The Cold Ash Clash will be held on Saturday 2nd November 2024.
Acland Memorial Hall, Cold Ash, RG18 9JH, Berkshire.
For those unfamiliar with the Scramble Format:
Each player brings any valid 12-element v3.0 army on 15mm base sizes (40mm frontage), camp (camp follower element optional), and terrain for a legal battlefield as the defender, which may include provision of a specific legal board size.
Note that the army will be used by other players. • Players will play AGAINST their own army only in the first round. • Players will use their own army only in the final round. • Players will be matched using Swiss chess format. • Armies will be matched as far as possible to maximise variety (of army used and fought against) for players. • The 12-element army and terrain choices may not be changed between rounds (hence no dismounting!). • Players must attempt to place all terrain pieces supplied.
The aim is to have 6 rounds, but may be revised on the day.
Depending upon the number of players and the time to arrange the pairings for each round, there is no guarantee of non-repetition, but priority order will be given to:
1. New opponent each round
2. New army used each round
3. New opposing army each round
There will be the usual trophies:
Top 3 players Strongest Army Slayer Most Challenging Army
In addition, new for 2023
Best Presented Army
Places will be capped at 24.
£7.50 secures a place.
Please PM me for payment details.

Pretty much all steps to facilitate my arrival have been completed - I just have to locate my chosen army in the plethora of boxes in the garage (as I fight for space with the elder of the (not so) little warbands).
See you all there
cheers
