What are the key tactical and strategic differences between the fast blades (3Bd) and the conventional solid blades (4Bd)? I have just finished rebasing my old Norse Viking army (III/40a) as the 3Bd raiders variant. They hope to have a jolly good time escaping their wives at home (joke) to ply the seas for loot and plunder. I have no experience with 3Bd, having only played DBA version 2.2 many years ago. Pictures of my sea wolves will be forthcoming in the Forum once I flock the bases. They are done with enamel paint! Your thoughts on using 3Bd vs 4Bd are appreciated. Cheers!

Love the 3bd version of the Vikings and use them alot. Also morphed them into a Lart force as well.
3bd I just find so much more useful, if there are terrain huggers in the enemy force. The 3bd may get a penalty for fighting in the terrain but they can at least catch the enemy.

As a confirmed tree hugger (sorry, terrain hugger) I can confirm what Baldie says - I hate 3Bd more than anything.

...3Bd is a question of speed and less armour and also the time epoche...

In my first tournament a year ago I chose the Sea Peoples as my army (mostly 3Bd).
No wonder I reached 2nd rank out of the blue. They were really fun to play, because their speed and their power against foot offer so many tactical possibilities. (But beware of Kn and HCh!)
4Bd may seem as powerful but they are slow and sluggish, in BG nearly useless...
Always think of Napoleon: "Vitesse, vitesse, agilité!"
