Adrian I have the Blemmye/Nobades army (II/55b) and the Beja (II/55c) which I don't think are yet committed I remember offering several people my dry terrain armies for this event but I can't remember exactly who, but I'm pretty sure those two are uncommitted at this point cheers Thanks David. For some reason I think he wanted to run II/55a, but we would appreciate it if you could bring along II/55b for him. I am definitely going, James and Rose still up in the air. All good Adrian - II/55a and II/55b are much of a muchness (b allows a few more options I think) and has been an old favourite of mine over many years. Back when Cancon DBA competitions allowed you to choose your composition at deployment and the 3Ax or Sp was not dependant on what particular Nubian tribe you were (DBA2.2) the Blemmye/Nobades were a very versatile army. I'll consider them spoken for now Cheers

14 registrations so far and I'm hopeful of at least 2 more. Some really interesting armies being fielded - I'll publish the Runners and Riders on Wednesday-ish!

Just out of interest, where is Goulburn? Goulburn is a regional city in the Southern Tablelands of the Australian state of New South Wales, approximately 195 kilometres (121 mi) south-west of Sydney, and 90 kilometres (56 mi) north-east of Canberra.

All sorted, just got the armies ready. Not too much I needed to do to get my DBA 2.2 armies ready for DBA 3, though it is disappointing that Saminid may no longer have an elephant.
I will be running Later Pre-Islamic Arab (Nomad).
Rose will be running Khurasainian Saminids.
James will be running Nobades (list b) - borrowed from Mr David L.
I didn't get to any terrain making and likely will not before Sunday. Will be looking to scrounge any Dry terrain (on pain of pathetic little pieces of felt).
Excited
Adrian

Ok.... Sons (and I'm delighted to say 'Daughters') of the Desert, time to reveal the Runners and Riders list for next Sunday's 'Just Deserts" Tournament.
Our players are:
James Manallack II/22c Arabo-Aramaean (Hatra) w/ Parthian Allies Adrian Williams II/23a Later Pre-Islamic Arab (Nomad) Greg Kelleher II/23a Later Pre-Islamic Arab (Nomad) Brenton Searle II/23b Later Pre-Islamic Arab (City) w/ LPIA (Nomad) Allies Austin Kenney II/23c Later Pre-Islamic Arab (Yemeni) James Hide II/55b Nobades David Lawrence III/12 Christian Nubian Adam Stone III/12 Christian Nubian David Williams III/25c Khawarij Charmaine Benfield III/31 Umayyad Arab Rosalina Hide III/43c Khurasanian (Samanid) Peter Spitz III/54a Dynastic Bedouin Chris C. III/54b Qaramita Phil Baldoni III/54b Qaramita Dale Daniels III/70 Tuareg Stephen Hopkins IV/20 Ayyubid Egyptian Michael Callan TBC Nick Rodgers TBC
And because two Qaramita armies are taking to the field, a quick clarification - this comp is being run as per the written rules. So...beware.....dismounting during the game is ALLOWED. But, Qaramita commanders will have to declare, at set up, which specific Camels dismount as Spears and those which dismount as Fast Bow.
It's a great field full of interesting armies - should be an entertaining day. See you all at 10am on Sunday, Mark

While waiting for my flight from Sydney to Armidale I thought that I would take the opportunity to report on how I fared at yesterday's Just Deserts tournament. So, metaphorically wearing my best sandals I ventured into the Goulburn Workers' Club to do battle with my II/23a Later Pre-Islamic Arabs (Nomad). The army consisted of 1xLH(G), 3xCm, 1xLH, 1xLCm, 3x4Bd, 2x3Bw and 1xPs.
First up was a civil war with another LPIA army commanded by Austin Kenny. Austin ran the Yemeni version, II/23c. After a thrilling battle I was able to prevail 4-3.
My 2nd game was against my nemesis from Saturday's practice games, with Mark fielding his Palmyrans, II/74a. Once again the Palmyrans were masterfully handled by Mark and I suffered a 2-4 defeat.
After lunch another LPIA civil war, this time II/23b (City with a Nomad ally). After a backwards and forwards tussle Brenton Searle defeated me 4-2.
Game 4 saw me go up against Charmaine Benfield. Charmaine was running III/31, Umayyad Arabs. With the game evenly balanced at 3-3, I was fortunate enough to snag another two kills. Another very engaging game.
The penultimate saw me opposed by Chris, fielding his II/54, Qaramita. With a maximum of number of Dunes deployed there was plenty of sand available to absorb spilt blood. Another tight game that went down to the wire with a 4-2 win for me.
The last game saw me come up against James Mallanack and his II/22c Hatrans. Another close game ensured with James taking the biscuits for a 4-2 win.
Overall, a 3-3 win loss ratio with which I'm happy about. Many thanks to all my opponents for great games played in the spirit we all appreciate. And many thanks to Mark for organising a great day of gaming.
Cheers,

A great day was had last Sunday. As is always the case, games were played with goodwill and generosity of spirit and all in all, it was a really fun day.
We ended up with a field of 19 players, with people travelling in from Armidale, Sydney, Canberra, Cooma and Wagga. Apologies if I missed anywhere. But thanks to everyone again for taking the time and effort to travel down / up. I played to even up the numbers. No fun having byes!
Special thanks to David Lawrence for his usual excellent assistance in scoring and calculating the draws….and to Peter Spitz for list checking and his brilliant magnetic signage system.
Ok….to the results. The day was taken out by one of the skilled veterans of the local DBA circuit, Brenton Searle. The runner-up was Phil Baldoni, another player very familiar with the podium. James Manallack got very close to the silverware but was pipped on countbacks.
Brenton Searle II/23b Later Pre-Islamic Arab (City) w/ LPIA (Nomad) Allies 39 Phil Baldoni III/54b Qaramita 37 James Manallack II/22c Arabo-Aramaean (Hatra) w/ Parthian Allies 37 Michael Spitzkowsky III/66 Fatimid Egyptian 36 Charmaine Benfield III/31 Umayyad Arab 34 Greg Kelleher II/23a Later Pre-Islamic Arab (Nomad) 33 Adam Stone III/12 Christian Nubian 33 Michael Callan IV/45 Mamluk Egyptian 33 David Lawrence III/12 Christian Nubian 31 Rosalina Hide III/43c Khurasanian (Samanid) 31 Dale Daniels III/70 Tuareg 30 Chris Cameron III/54b Qaramita 28 James Hide II/55b Nobades 27 Austin Kenney II/23c Later Pre-Islamic Arab (Yemeni) 27 David Lucas 1/6b Midianite 25 Adrian Williams II/23a Later Pre-Islamic Arab (Nomad) 25 Stephen Hopkins IV/20 Ayyubid Egyptian 23 Nick Rodgers IV/71b Coastal Peruvian 22 Peter Spitzkowsky III/54a Dynastic Bedouin 20
We’ve already chosen the theme for 2025! (and I’ve booked the venue – 23rd of March). Next year will be ‘Fight in the Shade’. A minimum of five bow elements will have to be fielded. Bows, longbows and crossbows of all types are eligible. From a quick count, there are some 64 lists that qualify in themselves and of course, allies are permitted so there’ll be many more options to get up to the required five.
Cheers Mark
