Today, I am further on with my renewed interest in all things 'Indian' sub-continent, and only my Heavy Chariots to complete for my Big DBA 25mm Classical Indian 25mm army project. Photos to follow when basing completed.
Meanwhile I decided to link my available classical Indians to the medieval Hindu Indian army that allied itself to the Portuguese trader / soldiers of the 15th and 16th centuries (essentially late medieval in terms of the Society of Ancients). (And some Hindus fought against them allied to Arab / Muslim traders and their Muslim allies!)
I previously posted some photos of the additional 25/28mm figures I had bought and painted as Hindu heavy cavalry, arquebusiers, and sword with buckler men.
I have now created some Hindu flags for these Hindu allies of the Portuguese (and their Hindu enemies who allied themselves with Arab / Muslim enemies). I will add copy of my flag sheet here (roughly 25/28mm scale) for personal use of others only. Please only download for your own use. See below.
I have now built four rocketeer ‘frames’. (Mine are a bit heavy in appearance in my simple construction / model making and I guess southern Indian Hindu princes would have used bamboo for frames and rocket sticks?) I have also ‘converted’ 12 classical Indian figures (6 Warrior Miniatures javelinmen and 6 Tin Soldier UK spearmen) to hold / throw rockets, (as skirmishers) or load the ‘artillery racks’! Now I have never found any historical evidence for rocket racks! And I am sure I have read (but cannot now say where) that the rocketeers were as likely to ‘shoot off’ their rockets by simply lying them on the ground and setting them off, or by liting them and throwing them!!
Photos to follow of the frames (glue still setting!) and converted figures as racketeers! They appear in both Hindu and Muslim India army lists but no original sources can I find!!
