Last call for "It'll all be over by (the first) Christmas" on 3 February 2024 at the Bennett Centre in Frome.
Those on the list so far are:
Stephen Finn
Chris Harrison
Paul Murgatroyd
Paddy Myers
Paul Hodson
Martin Myers
Ian Pain
Martin Smith
Colin O'Shea
That's nine "victims" so I will have to play too......................
As previously published, I need an army list name and number from each competitor by midnight Saturday, 27 January to the gmail address. I will then email out the list of armies to all. I will then need a finalised army list by midnight on Tuesday 30 January.
If anyone else wants to play, there is still space. If any of you have boards, please bring them as it will help greatly.
Original flyer content appears below.
Vexillum Minimus 2024
There will be a DBA competition on Saturday 3 February, 2024 in the Cloisters of The Bennett Centre, Vicarage St, Frome BA11 1PX. ("Cloisters" is a posh word for the basement, as the main hall is being used for a DBM competition - boo hiss.)
The theme is chosen to reflect the fact that I will be retiring to the Mediterranean later on in 2024.
Valid armies will be those dated prior to 0AD, whose home territory appears on a map I have which I cannot post here as it seems this forum has exceeded its attachment space! So basically:
East of the Pillars of Hercule
North of the southern end of the Red Sea
West of the Caspian Sea
South of latitude 45 degrees North
I will happily email the ruling map to any who are interested! The map RULES, my description above is only indicative. If you think close to the Med, you will not be far wrong.
As a twist (as suggested by Stephen Finn):
Participants will be allowed TWO variant lists of their army FROM THE SAME DATE, so for instance a participant might prepare two lists one foot-heavy, one horse-heavy, or one with an Ally and one without. Participants do not have to have a variant however if they do not wish to.
Each round's match-ups will be announced a few minutes in advance with the NAME of the army participants will face. Each participant will have a few minutes to decide which variant list they will use in that round WHICH MUST BE IDENTIFIED ON THEIR SCORING SHEET FOR THAT ROUND BEFORE THEY GO TO THE BOARD. The round will then be played with those identified variants.
In order for the theme and mechanism to work, there will be a date by which the name and list number of your selected army needs to be submitted, so I can check it's geographical and temporal validity. The list of army names will be emailed to all competitors once it is compiled so that participants can tune their army lists.
There will be a further submission date, a couple of days before the competition, where you have to lodge your final army list with variant (or not as may be). These will not be published but will come as a surprise when you play them!
If any submission dates are missed, you will not be eligible to play I'm afraid. As the "Brabeuo" of the competition, my decision as to validity of Armies and lists will be final.
There will be a selection of prizes. Tea and coffee facilities are available in the hall. Participants will need to make their own arrangements for lunch - there are a range of shops and takeaways nearby, though the really good chip shop has closed I'm afraid for those who played here the last time!
Indications of interest please via email to stephen.etheridge@gmail.com as soon as possible.
