Second that - especially about cookies and brownies. Some great games and a good crowd as always. Now adding elephants to camels as my most hated animals!
Favourite moment watching my cav general getting 6-1’d by an overlapped warband general. K

Ken, you and I can't agree on camels but we can agree on one thing: no one can reasonably be expected to win with a Tamil army with Sinhalese allies (5 El). At least if defending in the deep dark forest.

Many thanks to Mark and Phil for running an excellent fun day in “Sunny Sheffield”. Good to see familiar and new faces alike. Already looking forward to next year.

You did, Bigus Yinus, and deserved to, as my Ancient British warbands fell into your cunning trap. (Killing the screening bows and charging your elephants.) But although you had to get out of the enclosures, you were at least not obliged to wend your narrow way between large patches of foul forest.

Nice to see John Cleese at a DBA tournament, I don't expect he gets out much these days. He was reprising his role as a Roman centurion berating a Jew painting anti Roman slogans on a huge wall (as in Life of Brian). An excellent vignette finishing off a beautifully modelled Jewish Revolt army. It was such a joy to lose with, Ken!
It was a bit of a trek from the south coast but the tournament was such fun. The theme was a refreshing change from wall to wall knights etc and an extra feature was the use of varied additions to the rules each round; and I always enjoy playing new gamers as well as 'old'. The venue was spacious and had all facilities including parking - something that is becoming a priority. Mark and Phil made a fine combo and between them managed the day extremely well. My only disappointment was the brief visit of Irregular Miniatures who arrived after the start of my game and left before I had finished, leaving me no time to make a planned purchase.
After John Cleese, the other highlight of my day was to finish a game on a 0 : 0 draw. A first for me! My opponent would not venture into my lair and I never had enough PIPS to venture out.
Thank you Mark and Phil for a well organised and enjoyable day.
Colin

Well done to Mark and Phil for a) finding a commendable ‘second choice’ venue (very nice indeed 👍🏼) to rescue the event after being let down, and b) for then running a really good day of mixed up games.
Congratulations to ALL on the podium, and to Diades, who took the ‘prize’ of worst army (which I had hoped to achieve….obviously I wasn’t devious enough 😎).
Pics and a summary of my rather feebly played day of games will follow in due course, no doubt.

Baldie How do you make a Samnite force worse , when adding allies ? Ask the PIP dice…😁…there were two allies, I think, so three PIPs minimum to move the whole army. (?).

Huge thanks to Mark and Phil for a very enjoyable day.
Thanks too to a great bunch of competitors and armies.
I claimed the worst army, which was a shock, I had been worried they would be at the other end of the table, being all auxilia, amongst what I expected to be a plethora of psiloi and light horse. Thank you for the prize!
I can also claim to have lost using the strongest army. I wonder how many times they defended? I defended in the round where my opponent had choice of who attacked or defended. With three difficult hills and two woods, it was a tough gig!
An excellent variety of rounds…I particularly liked the “choose two armies”…I chose the two prettiest I could see left for me…and then your opponent chooses who plays with which. I ended up with 9 psiloi Lusitania vs the Popular front of Judea and managed a victory!
All good fun.
