Hi this has been bugging me for a while as I am not sure the classification of Almaghavars as Ax accurately portrays their fighting style...
They fought against cavalry by attacking the enemies' horses instead of the knights themselves. Once a knight was on the ground he was an easy victim of an Almogavar.
...sounds a bit more than skirmishers to me and certainly not Ax behaviour vs Kn with an inclination to get stuck in rather than run away?
Maybe others could offer other ecmvidence to confirm they were skirmishes or add to the description above where they could be considered something like Wb or Bd?

I’d go for 3Bd… …fast, powerful, can fight in any terrain, and can ‘quick kill’ Knights on an equal score. Then they would certainly be “the finest soldiers of their era” and a definite threat, whereas 4Ax are none of these things. See fanaticus.boards.net/post/44954/

...that is a mistake of version 3 or directly from PB. In version 22 i dit often use the Catalan company with an army of that version. But n version 3 the army is a fake i think. I think like the version 3. Could be tu much for an old man...

Hi everyone. I also think that 4 auxilia makes no sense and does not reflect the historical characteristics of the Almugavari in the slightest. the speed of movement, the ferocity and the undoubted efficiency on the battlefield and against cavalry make me think that the most correct classification is 3Bd

I think Fast Blade seems the best option.
We are going to make Aux (Solid) +1 v. Foot but this would not help much v. Mounted.
