Blue HC & LC contact 2 orange LC frontally. Both blue are in contiguous side-edge contact, as are the orange. Blue HC conduct their close combat first. They beat their opposing orange LC, recoiling them 1 BW & therefore Blue HC must pursue, remaining in front edge-front edge contact Do the 2 opposing LCs now fight at any kind of advantage or disadvantage? Do the winning blue HC provide support?

Welcome to the forum. To clarify, the combat you describe would involve elements “overlapping”, the effect of which would reduce the opponent’s tactical factor. “Side support” applies to elements classed as ‘solid’ (foot) increasing one’s tactical factor. Blue LH would benefit as the tactical factor of orange LH would be reduced by – 1.

I understand the concept of side support- if the blue forces had been 2 LC, and the first LC-LC combat had resulted in a blue win, the orange LC would have recoiled & the blue LC would have the option of not pursuing. Remaining in place they would 100% have provided Side Support for the other LC-LC combat. However, the rules don't appear to be clear re side-edge to side-edge contact of opposing sides providing support, especially as the 2 blue units would no longer be in any type of contact.. I can now see in Annex F that rule 8.31 that there would be no 'Support in Close Combat'.....so there's no apparent disadvantage to having an enemy in side-edge to side-edge contact....?

Either way the remaining Orange LH is overlapped and has a -1 penalty in combat for being overlapped.

... (For some reason, I'm unable to add an illustrative 40k JPEG attachment) Post it somewhere else (I use postimage) and embed it in your text (see above the seventh button from the right, when writing...). And a heartily welcome to the forum! DBN? Great!

Sorry about that. There are a number of DBN players here, an answer should be forthcoming.
