A high medieval cityOn a trip to the beautiful city of Nördlingen halfway between Rothenburg and Augsburg I bought a box of about 100 small wooden miniatures. From these you may rebuild the historic freie Reichsstadt (Free Imperial city) with its surrounding city wall or any other. They match perfectly with 2mm armies. See above. The Kaiser arrives and shows the flag of this noble town. If you have any other terrain made of wood, share it here!

...unfortunately I only have one fortress made of wood... ...eigentlich hat es noch Sand, Farbe und Weissleim darin... ...for DBA the city should have a function like this one from timurilank... ...dann ist auch die umspielte Epoche wichtig, wie diese Häuser aus dem 7YW...

A high medieval city(snip) I could use something like this. I fear this special set is out of stock now.

Haven't been to Nordlingen in nearly 50 years. Is the 30 years war battle diorama still there? I wish I had known more about the battle, a catastrophic Swedish defeat. There's an SPI game on the subject. The diorama was about 6x8 and all flats. Who would have known. Great walls.

Yes, it is in the city wall museum in the "Löpsinger Tor", one of the most impressive defensive buildings of the time, built by Wolfgang Wallberger. I've been there several times, because I love to see the diorama and the gate with its chinese elements: elegantly swung roof ridges on the square gate, which end in dragon heads. Lovely. Take a look.

Vodnik, you have some lovely terrain there too. Is that wooden fort, paper town, and clay / ceramic row of Dutch like buildings? CarlL

My recent trip to this year's Tactica Hamburg brought many ideas for terrain building with naturally grown stuff.
Now I crouch through my garden collecting twigs of elderberry, boxwood etc. to use them for palisades and scenery.
Any other suggestions?

Twigs for woods (topped off by lichen, or more modern foliage ideas? Twigs for a sacred grove? (Edifice or DBA camp?) I once wound lengths of new yew growth (with leaves removed - a smelly process, but not unpleasant) around stakes (made from twigs - but with pre-drilled holes in base board of plywood to help hold them) to create a training enclosure for my 54mm gladiators, that then became their fighting arena, using off set squares inside the compound, and rules from Society of Ancients. Later I repaired it but decided the twine winding was too much like hard work so I cheated and used off cuts of hessian sacking to create a wattle like fencing! The game was first edition of Gladiolus, still going strong see soa.org.uk/joomla/games CarlL
