rrrright…
So IMO the first question to ask is, what can this army do ?
Well, with 3 Paladins, it is a killer of Heroes and Magicians. It also has potential against everybody with 3 vs Mounted - Blades, Riders, and Wb as long as they lack rear support.
And the second question is, what does it fear ?
Well, units with 4 vs Mounted up to a point, but Beasts and Shooters not so much since you have Beasts to fight them ( I very much favor the crawlies as Beasts ). That leaves Spears, but at least they're slow And Knights. Knights are problematic.
And Behemoths. Behemoths are more than problematic, they can trample both your Paladins and Beasts into oblivion.
So my opinion would be, another Spear to defend against Behemoths and either 2 Shooters or 2 Knights to take care of Knights. Shooters increase your command of BG but Knights are more mobile and will let you smash those walls of Spears behind which the enemy Magicians lurk. Also they'll help you against all those guys with 3 vs Mounted that could attack trusting in numbers and the luck of the dice
I'd definitely pick Knights.

I'd definitely pick Knights. Some interesting thoughts ashimbabbar! The standard enemy to the martians is the Human Army, which fields 2 tanks as knights, 2 shooters, 3 Rd, 1 Hero and 4 Hd. Sounds like a real challenge for them. So I'm really keen on playtesting them...

Behemoths are more than problematic, they can trample both your Paladins and Beasts into oblivion. Ah, but you’re missing something Ashimbabbar…in a word, “ Overlaps!”. In HoTT, like DBA, it’s all about the overlaps. A Paladin v Behemoth doesn’t look too good, but three Paladins will usually drive off the enemies guarding the Behemoth’s flanks, giving the Behemoth a -1 or even -2 for being overlapped. And Paladins are immune to shooting… …and practically immune to magic… …and they move faster than Behemoths… …plus they don’t pursue, but the uncontrollable Behemoths do. As for Beasts, providing they can keep one tiny corner in bad going, their mounted opponents will suffer a -2 in combat, which helps. A perfect situation would be for a Paladin to hit the enemy Behemoth in the front, and have another element (a Beast?) simultaniously hitting it in the flank from bad going. Chances of the Paladin (CF 6) being recoiled and killed?…only 1 in 36. Chances of the Behemoth (CF 5-3) being killed?…33 chances out of 36! (See →this chart ) In short, Behemoths must avoid going near bad going at all costs. And they’re slower…plus they pursue into dangerous positions…

And surely it's standard army-building practice to supplement Behemoths with either Wb or Kn to destroy any possible wall of Spears ?

Now the martian hunting units (Bs) are ready. They roam the battlefield in search of human blood...

Some specific martian terrain: scorched earth or burnt forest (RG) Material: some model grass on styrofoam, grey acrylic paint.
