Greg, Ambitious project. What will you use as the general’s standard?

Greg, Ambitious project. What will you use as the general’s standard? I'll be using the Aragonese standard Robert. Apparently the Company continued to use it long after the break from the royal forces. Cheers,

Now that's clever Gregorius!! Great painting racks!!
Love those painting racks (for 15mm inf I presume?) screw heads or flat headed nails?
(I suppose oval headed nails of large calibre would work well for separate riders too?!)
Not a criticism, just a question, how come you use such tall screws / nails (hereafter stands)? If they are 15mm figures these stands must be 30mm up from wooden bases themselves 60mm x200mm (just a guesstimate) so pretty heavy on the fingers if doing long painting session. BUT much less likely to topple over than my narrow painting sticks.
Love to hear more about the advantages and usefulness of this type of painting rack with tall stands and big base. (I suppose getting under the figure is easier for one for those undercuts under arms legs or chin?)

(I suppose getting under the figure is easier for one for those undercuts under arms legs or chin?) CarlL the curious Hi Carl, Thanks for the comments and questions. Yes, they are 50mm flat head nails that, in this instance, are supporting 15mm figures. I have also used them for 28mm figures. I use PVA to attach the figures to the nails. The wooden bases are 40mmx20mm pine cut to 300mm lengths. There are 10 holes drilled to a depth of about 10mm. So each nail can be taken from the base for painting. For separate riders, I drill a hole into the underside of the figure's saddle and then glue it to the pointy end of a 50mm bullet head nail. I hope this explains my technique. Cheers,

Cheers Greg, fascinating. Here was me thinking you were mass painting a line at a time, and not spotting possibility of individual painting by using the nail stand as a peg!! Great idea. CarlL

While house and dog sitting my sister's place in Harrington I've been able to return to the Almughavars. I'm about 60% way through applying colour and hope to complete them either today or tomorrow.
Cheers

Some more progress with this project. I've finished the 1x3Ax element to represent a contingent of the Turkish mercenaries hired by the Catalan Company. Next up are the mercenary Turkish horse archers. Once the Turks are completed I'll post images.
Cheers,

I've finally returned to this project after receiving Khurusan and Essex Miniatures figures for the 3Kn(G), 3Cv, 4Cb and Ps elements. First up are the figures for the 2x4Cb elements. They have been cleaned up, mounted on painting nails and primed. Hopefully today I'll start applying colour.
Cheers,
