Hello,
I am trying to run some what-if games around the Peloponnesian War.
In the first stage we have Athens assisting revolts against the Persians in cities located in Asia Minor.
What army list would be good to represent those cities?
Thanks

Hello, I am trying to run some what-if games around the Peloponnesian War. In the first stage we have Athens assisting revolts against the Persians in cities located in Aisa Minor. What army list would be good to represent those cities? Thanks Interesting. You could use the earlier list, I/52g Asiatic Greek, 668 BC – 449 BC, to simulate a city-wide revolt. Hoplites from the region would presumably join the Persian army as mercenaries only to return home on learning of a revolt. Their number may not be as large as given in the above list, but the difference could easily be filled by peltasts, archers and slingers (Ps). Allowing Hellenic allies would allow the Asiatic Greek to field more hoplites. Just some thoughts.

Hello, I am trying to run some what-if games around the Peloponnesian War. In the first stage we have Athens assisting revolts against the Persians in cities located in Asia Minor. What army list would be good to represent those cities? Thanks It would depend on your preamble. Historically, the local Hoplites during the Ionian revolt (499-493 BC) were considered somewhat lesser than the mainland troops, largely because they weren't practiced. They had lived in relative peace under the Great King for years. In that setting you could make them 4Ax rather than Sp (spears give the current Persian army list a tough time). Otherwise, take the Other City or Overseas Mercenary list and add some local allies (Mysian Psiloi, Thracians, Carians, etc). All sounds like good fun! Cheers Jim
