There were distinct differences between Indian and African (more accurately the North African elephant - now extinct) war elephants.
Indian elephants were larger, steadier, and easier to train, whereas the African variety lacked these advantages but was faster.
Suggestion: Designate the African variety (used by the Kushites, Carthaginians, and Ptolemies) as the "fast" elephants and the Indian variety (used by the Persians, Indian and East Asians) as the "solid" version - with appropriate unit modifiers.

Are you suggesting that coconuts migrate?

Surely in these more enlightened times we all exist in the presence or absence of coconuts is immaterial to mature discussion. I was under the impression that coconuts do migrate.

Yes but that is clearly a rabbit Or a rabbit disguised as a coconut, all the better to infiltrate a migrating herd of coconuts….perhaps….

Thoughts or comments? So African elephants were much more difficult to handle? Certainly, if you feel the need to differentiate between two classes of elephants, use some unit modifiers as a house rule. But in general I think the according DBA rules simply fit for both types. Once again it is a question of zoom. How far do we want to go into details? The animals, their individual behaviour, may be different, the one goes slow and steady right to the front, the other one runs left and right, stops, breaks off, returns, must be set on course again to reach the enemy and join the fight. In the end the effect on the enemy seems to me quite the same. And DBA's essence is exact its focus on effects. The general doesn’t need to know if the elephant turns left or right, but he will be happy if its attack is successful, and shocked if the elephants are killed...
