I have been given a £25 Essex Miniatures gift card as a belated birthday present.
I was thinking of using it to buy an army pack and that the army would then remind me of both the donor and the occasion. I am happy to add a bit, but I'd like the voucher to cover most of the cost. (Otherwise it becomes so-and-so bought me half the army and I bought the other half.)
I think I have probably made my choice, but which Essex army pack costing up to, say, £30 would you choose? (And why?)
Menacus S
PS Waiting until a later date isn't an option as the voucher is only valid for 3 months.

I think i would take II/12 Alexandrian Macedinian: - It seems to be a good amry in play (i'm new player, but it still seems, at least to me) - It is an iconic army - It is out of the range of what i have now, so won't be "one in many" - It is a center piece of the period. So if i start collecting all armies of this time, it will be THE "one in many" These lead this to be an army i would like to play, to paint, and which would probably make me buy many others armies i would like to play and paint. And each time i'll do these all things, i'll think about the people who "offered" me Alexander. (As you see, my motivation is good, maybe better than yours. You should offer me this gift card, i'll remember you well !)

Norman's would be a good fit for some of those armies

For me, it would be based on trying to avoid some of the more generic and lacking in variety of pose armies that Essex can churn out… that can prove tricky…

Looking at your list I would consider a few options...you could look for enemies of existing armies?
Book I you could consider Late Amorites,Hyksos or Sea People armies
or
Book II maybe Palmyran?

As I said, I thought I'd made my choice, but you may just have changed my mind - although it's not clear what the Late Amorite LCh General looks like* and the I/15 pack lacks the nomadic levies (3Ax or Ps) which are an alternative to the 2 x 7Hd * Checked with Essex. The LCh is the car used for BSE2. (I assume the figures are different, but I didn't ask about that.)

If you just send the voucher to me, I would be delighted to take this dilemma off your hands...

Oops sorry to place a seed of doubt on your decided choice.🙂 I have the army in my mount unpaint and chose the Essex Elamite platform car for the General Element...but the army Tony Aguilar posted in his YouTube videos has a Syrian/Canaanite chariot I think? So the choice is up to you after all. I had planned to add a few elements to the army so that it can morph inti an Early/Late Hyksos army as the armies only have a few differences.😉

It was an idle question on my part, but the Late Amorites would be an appropriate choice for several reasons (which I shan't bore you with).

And lo, it came to pass that I chose the Later Amorites (with some adjustments). Thank you for the suggestion Haardrada.

Finished basing the army today, just in time for Britcon this weekend. Pity I'm not able to go.
I may post some pictures - or links to pictures - when I get a moment.
