Too many figure ranges disappearing.
Legio Heroica, haven't quite made it back into production, now wonder if it will ever happen.
Allain Touller, also died prematurely, his wife has the molds? She is too heartbroken to part with them?
Corvus Belli-now in plastic, I don't trust the longevity; and the figures don't seem quite as crisp as the old metal figures.
Donnington: the old molds are becoming corrupt.
Falcon figures; Kai Weaver, became ill, and he and the molds disappeared.
Roundway and Naismith: owner became ill and production ceased.
Outpost Miniatures: Owner became ill and production ceased.
Wish I had ordered more when I had the chance. Hope that those who fell ill recover.

Get well soon to all that are unwell.
Your post serves as a timely reminder that nothing lasts forever and we are an ageing community. Time to dust off the paints and figures and get painting and playing!

Whilst much of that is sadly missed, there’s still many reasons to be happy in the world of 15mm. Museum’s new Z sculpts are amazing and taking this genre onto a new level, Khurasan continue to develop beautifully crafted figures (for those in the US… 😭) and Forged in Battle for Books II & III are superb recent additions to the fold…
Now, if only we could steer the 28mm market back towards its smaller cousin, we’d be cooking on gas 😁

Maybe in the days and years to come, when Mammoths and Thylacines(or some sort of bastardization of them) walk the earth again, these old relics might be scanned and 3d printed to your hearts content.
Their image and the ability to make them physical held for eternity, or at least until the old men that treasured them fade from memory and the files forgotten or accidently deleted.
Probably about twenty years I'd say.

Forget about looking back fondly on beautiful 15mm models
Soon we will be looking back fondly at heated rooms and lights as we have to burn inferior rules set to give us light to play by. Wood will become too in demand as fuel that our only option will be to chalk gaming boards and terrain onto the concrete floors of the underground nuclear shelters we are forced to scratch out an existence in.
A DBA based post apocalyptic film, maybe I should call LA

A DBA based post apocalyptic film, maybe I should call LA In that world warfare will be reduced to bows, spears and swords again so you'll be able to experience DBA for real, which is likely to be less fun.

I feel lucky that I came back to DBA a few years ago and I (re)built my collection fairly quickly, as you are absolutely right - sad to see a generation of figure producers disappearing On the other hand, I started dabbling in resin 3d printing and I think we are close to see it being detailed enough for people to produce their own 15 mm figures - we'll see if that brings fresh air to the scale.

I agree. The future may be bright given the rapid improvement of home 3d resin printing. Printing a DBA army in a day will mean the mountain of miniatures will never be conquered! Jim

Trivia question for the day: what are the two lists that contain both scythed chariots and non-scythed chariots?

Going back to Mike Guth's original post, having purchased a number of 'abandoned' figure lines in the last 8 years, I get a lot of thank you's for keeping the old figures in the market.
However, the demand is just not there for 15mm figures. Many of you saw the explanation by the owner of Baueda as to why he is basically pausing new 15mm figures..
The professional painters I know have had to branch out to bigger and smaller scales.
If you own a 3D printer, you want to use it to get your money out of it. That probably will end metal 15mm figures.
I do think 15mm figures are as small as people really want to go and in the future 20mm may be the smallest scale (note the scale creep in 15mm.)
Anyway, those are my brief thoughts here. I'll try to find some time to post a new thread on this topic with some things I'd like feedback on.

Lots of sad thinking here. And not just confined to world of DBA and tin soldiering. Indeed times are rough with covid and wars raging, we are lucky when we have our health, and access to a hobby to sustain our mental wellbeing. In my youth nobody had heard of 15mm. This scale did not exist. It was Airfix (two sets dedicated to ancient history and two to the English medieval world) Or Minifigs or one other range Garrison Miniatures... memory failing me... My point(s) being: 1. 15mm is an invention that many talented sculptors and mold makers / metal workers developed and helped make. 2. Fashions come and go in toy soldiers as in other walks of life. Sadly when promoters / makers / sculptors get ill or worse, or lose heart their work ceases to be available. ON POSITIVE NOTE 3. Perhaps it needs a "15mm support group" of a Kickstarter nature to crowd fund the purchase and preservation of your delights and gaming history? I still treasure my early purchases and painting efforts even though sculpting and painting skills have moved on generally in our hobby. Perhaps the way to preserve what you treasure is to support it where you can; or look to create a 'community' effort to hold on to some, while acknowledging much (like moulds, master figures and talented sculptors) are lost over longterm. I best head back to my bunker now and get off another order to Jacklex 20mm or checkout what those guys at WDW have preserved of my first love in metal Ancients... if interested checkout wargamesdesignworkshop.co.uk/about-us/ I am not sure how crowdfunders or kickstarters work. I suppose at their core a group of enthusiasts come together with an idea, some graft and perseverance to see it through. Good luck on 15mm front. I have many lovely 15mm among many scales!! Oh what has fickle fashion done,..... CarlL

If nothing else this thread has made me feel so good I’ve spent all that money over the years to build a large stock of unpainted lead! In fact I suspect we don’t need a kickstarter, just pool our lead mountains and we all have enough figures to go round.

Lucky for me I have friends in the USofA , who wil forward the figures to me in the UK , but not everyone will though .

I'm hoping that 3D prinitng technology and software continues to improve at the current rate so that downsizing a 28mm to 15mm will be relatively straight forward without significant loss of relevant details. Fingers crossed!
