X-COM: UFO, Enemy Unknown…for HoTT!IntroductionThe purpose of these guidelines is not to turn HoTT 2.1 into the computer game, but in fact the opposite. The aim is to shoehorn UFO Enemy Unknown to fit into HoTT. Doing things this way avoids having to make loads of new rules to cover such things as destroying terrain, night battles, healing wounds with Medi-kits, having buildings and UFO’s with multiple floors, and much more besides that exists in the computer game. There are only two optional rules that have been added; these are Zombies hatching into new Chryssalids, and turning to flee down a table side-edge. But other than that all the normal HoTT 2.1 rules still apply, although who places the terrain and who deploys and moves first is different. Stevie,
Fantastic! I’ve been thinking about doing this for ages and now you’ve done all the heavy lifting! Brilliant!
Next question: where to get the minis from? I have found: Alternative Armies Grey Aliens are perfect for Sectoids. Ral Partha Europe Astager are perfect for Snakemen. Ral Partha Europe Praesentia make passable Etherals. For X-Com my go to are the various Ground Zero Games ranges. I use Hammers Slammers as early X-Com.
Not sure how to do Floaters or Mutons yet. Any ideas?

My thinking is pretty much the same as yours Paddy.
Etherials: any hooded Medieval monks, and even some hooded Druids, would fit well, with black faces and painted coppery-orange with scratch-built rayguns.
Sectoids: their Cyberdisc Aerial Terror Units have two possible options…I happen to have some cheap blue tinted round ‘John Lennon’ type sunglasses, or use a stout pair of scissors to cut out the bottoms from beer cans. (And I have a awful lot of those!)
Floaters: I also have many boxes of (unpainted) plastic 20mm ancient figures. Cut the legs off any cloaked figures and glue them onto necklace beads. Thracians with modified cut down hats work well. (There’s no reason why some Aliens can’t be taller than X-COM soldiers) And for their Reaper Biting Terror Units, I happen to have a Risk Star Wars game, with lots of plastic ‘Rancor’ figures. I plan to cut their arms off and add paper painted silver to their legs and head to represent their armour.
Snakemen: their Chryssalid Parasitic Terror Units are easily represented by the “Alien” from the film of the same name, with their back spines, tails and the back of their long skulls removed and modified.
Mutons: yes, these are a bit of a problem. I’ve seen other wargamers use Marvel ‘Hulk’ figures for these. But since in the more modern versions of the X-COM PC game they look more like Warhammer figures with impossibly large shoulder armour, perhaps these would do. Their Celatid Acid Spitting Terror Units are just blobs of purple milliput.
For Early X-COM in uniforms I’m going to use WWII soldiers with blue berries. Not entirely authentic I know…but they can then double-up as U.N.I.T troops for fighting my Doctor Who Daleks.
