On behalf of queen Zenobia the rather gormless a big thank you to Stevie for organising a great competition on Saturday. Congratulations to Martin, Mark and Stephen for podium places and commiserations to those whose luck undermined their tactical brilliance.
Always enjoy playing the man not the game (some mistake here Ed?) so had a most pleasurable day of thrills, spills and draws. Looking forward to future competitions in glorious (if chilly) Somerset.
Roll on the St George’s day feast of fun at Alton.

Very nice to visit “the sixth coolest town in Britain” although we did not see much of it apart from the gorgeously Victorian Gothic Bennet Centre. The heavy dark wood ceiling soars and the stone arched crypt is very atmospheric – a great setting for gaming. Perhaps next time we should wear pith helmets and toast the queen… to the sound of Zuluuuuuuuu!
I expected my Celtiberians to be steamrollered by the hordes of Parthians that turned up, but the only time I faced them all day I did the steamrollering (6G-1) – DBA!! My worst defeat came at the end when I seemed to develop a knack for throwing ones after a very promising start. So, I drove home with the winner and the runner up and more lead in the boot than we arrived with!
Thank you, Stephen for a great theme, venue and day of gaming. I look forward to returning to Zummerset. Colin

A big thank you to the brave adventurers who rode to Frome to do battle yesterday. I hope all enjoyed their various encounters. I will post the scores a little later when I have a chance to type them up. If anyone wants to appear as "Anonymous" in the list, please let me know and forward a fiver........ Congratulations to Martin Smith, Mark Skelton and Stephen Finn for being recipients of the vastly expensive trophies of recently excavated Roman helmets. Romans, so far ahead they invited plastics.........

A fun day, well run, five crackin’ games against valiant and able opponents (scary Parthians cataphracts aplenty 😳) and more than my share of luck when needed. Many thanks for running it, Stevie 👍🏼👍🏼.

I look forward to returning to Zummerset. Colin Hello Colin In 1975 as part of wound recovery, I was given the opportunity to travel in winter in Africa, starting in South Africa. The trip was paid for by the government using MoD staff (soldiers) and a couple of stripped down “Pink Panther 90”. It checked the feasibility of a railway over the whole length of Africa, an idea nearly 100 years old by then. The most interesting, and nice time was in Natal/Zululand, we stopped at the battlefield of Isandlwanah to pay our respects to the dead, the battlefield was very much as it had been after the battle, broken bits from ammunition boxes and cairns marking the mass graves. The Zulus would not go on the battlefield claiming it was haunted by the dead British soldiers, they would face lions with just spears, but not the battlefield, especially at night. Well, we decided that no harm could come to us, and we spent a very scary night on the battlefield, persuading ourselves that the noises were just wind through the cairns. In the morning we got up to see Zulus still watching us on the battlefield, we went back to their village as heroes, the bravest of the brave, to be entertained that night by the local girls. We did not toast the Queen, but we did have a swig each from a brandy flask. David Constable

GREAT story David - so atmospheric. Good to hear from you.
You might like to know that some of your unpainted figures donated at Tarrington went into a prize Bosporan army I painted for the Alton DBA tournament last year.
More war stories welcome. I hope you are amusing yourself and keeping well.

Glad to hear they are coming in handy.
Sorry to say the rest is mostly definitely covered by the OSA and 100 year rule, and not all war. I stopped in Rhodeshia to see my fathers elder brother and family, then came home from there. The rest went on to Oman, dropping the Land Rovers of there, the Navy brought them home, but not on the intended ship.
Keeping quiet still working on Gaugamela 331BC, think I have it. Might look at 6mm again.
