The list will be fixed (no swapping of optional elements between rounds). Each player must bring a fixed, legal terrain deployment for their army. There will be prizes for at least the winner and runner-up (possibly more). Entrance fee:£5.00 per player, all proceeds to the upkeep and maintenance of the Bennett Centre. Eligible armies:1) ANY Roman army drawn from “The List” (below), OR 2) ANY designated ally of an army on The List, OR 3) ANY designated enemy of an army on The List. “The List”:I/55, I/59, II/10, II/33, II/49, II/56, II/64, II/78, II/82 Start time:Registration at 0930, gaming to start at 1000. Just a quick reminder, Vexillum Minimus, Frome, 2 April 2022 Good afternoon all. I have the following list of players for the competition.
Martin Smith Colin O'Shea Paul Gerrard Steve Aspinall John Mee Chris Harrison Brian Shipp Ian Pain John Saunders Neil Alexander Paddy Green Pete James Mark Skelton Martin Myers Mark Johnson Paddy Myers Stephen Finn
That’s an odd number so it looks like I will be playing too but I am not sure my brain will be able to cope. I will be away from the end of the week so this is: • A last call for players • A reminder that I need your army choices by COB 5 March • A vote on the emailing re rules interpretation for littoral landings for allies from all those players who want to express an opinion/preference Also, if you can, please bring a board with you for the actual event.
Thanks all.

If anybody is travelling by rail, be aware that there appear to be problems in the area on the day, so check before going. Tried approaching from Bristol, Reading and Exeter directions from Worcester, all equally bad.

Just noticed….In the initial announcement-
“…. Each player must bring a fixed, legal terrain deployment for their army. All terrain pieces must be laid, if possible, by the defending player in any round…..”
So,we only need to bring one set of fixed and legal terrain….that’s a bonus 👍🏼.

Morning all, I have just done a mail out to the gamers attending but have had a bounce back on one of the email addresses - Paul Gerrard. If anyone has an alternative address for him, or if you are reading this Paul, can you confirm your email address to me directly? Ta Stephen (Or Steve for Denis' benefit - I am working on a project with four Stephens of various spelling and I am the only "Stephen" so that is why I have been using it and it has become a habit!)

Firstly, a roundup of the armies that are being fielded, please note that I still have not had definitive army choices from two of you!
1 off II/20d Ptolemaic Army 53-30 BC, 1 off II/39b Celtiberian 2 off Bosporan II/25 1 off Book 2 - 48 Mithradatic Army 1 off II/78a: Western Late Imperial Romans 3 off Parthian 2/37 1 off II/22e "the Armies of Edessa, Singara or Adiabene" with Parthian Ally 1 off II/33 Polybian Roman with Numidian Ally 1 off II 44 Commagene with II 37 Parthian Allies 1 off II/74b Zenobia’s Army with Allies - II/23 a PreIslamic Arabs 1 off II/58 Alans II/58 1 off II/33 Polybian Roman (no foreigner allies here! Move on nothing to see)
Just to recap - registration from 0930, gaming to start at 1000. Entry fees £5 (all proceeds to the upkeep of the Bennett Centre) to me on the day!
I have been asked about scoring, so to recap:
Swiss chess format (fiddled to avoid duplicate matches) 5 points for a win, 2 for a draw, 0 for a loss (apart from me as I always lose with artistic style and grace so the Judge ((me)) will be awarding me style points!) Tie-breaks will be on NET generals killed then NET camps sacked (if there is a tie then, I'll think of something else)
The judge's decision is final but bear with him as he now has to play to make even numbers and he is a bear of little brain!
Please bring a board if you can.
Any queries, please email me directly.
