PS As for LH and Psiloi double moves on first turn, I agree with separate PIPs as the Psiloi are looking for terrain that suits them, which clearly does not suit the LH!
Actually
Jim, there are two circumstances where Psiloi can make extra subsequent moves:-
* In their very first bound (where they may start and end in ANY terrain).
* In other bounds (where they must start in good and end in bad or rough).
I wanted the Ps in their first bound to be able to make a subsequent group-move with LH.
This was to save a weak Carthaginian or Numidian army a PIP, at least in the first bound.
But I was told they must make their subsequent moves independently, costing 2 PIP’s.
The Subsequent Move section on page 9 does say “…and is entirely by”, and as the
LH and Ps are listed separately, in (a) and (b), players think they must be treated
separately and cannot make subsequent group-moves together
(shame).
-------------------------------------
But getting back to the main issue of a mixed group of Cm and Ps in Dunes or Oasis,
I would agree with everybody…
…
IF the first sentence of the last paragraph on page 8 had said:-
“A
group move by road, or across bad (not rough) going
must be in or into a column unless entirely by Psiloi.”
…which seems to be the interpretation many of you want.
Then troops that do not enter the terrain would be unaffected, and could still
group-move with those that did enter the terrain.
But this not what the rule says - it says “a group-move” only if
entirely by Psiloi.
You know what I’m going to say now don’t you…yep, ”We didn’t write the rules”.
(But we can certainly House Rule them if we want)However, the problem with House Rules is your opponent has to also agree with them.
So don’t be surprised if they point their finger at page 8, last paragraph, first sentence,
where it quite clearly says a group-move in bad going can only be by columns unless
entirely by Psiloi.
-------------------------------------
Still, I’m flexible, and if the consensus of the DBA community has changed on this issue,
then I’m all for it. 👍
The logic could be that since Camels treat Dunes and Oasis as good going, a mixed
group of Cm and Ps can move as a group through these terrain pieces for a single PIP.
Ah, but what happens if the Ps enters this terrain, but Cm part of the group does not?
Can they still move together as a group?
If they can, then what about a Ps in bad going with a Bd or Sp that stays in good going?
Can this mixed group still move together?
If yes, then what about a 3Ax in bad going next to a Bd or Sp that stays in good going?
Do you see the Pandora’s Box we are opening here?…
