Can people confirm how they play the overlapped if close to the board edge rule please.
The last paragraph in the Close Combat section on page 10 says:
An element in good going other than Light Horse or Cavalry and which did not move this bound and has any front corner less than 1BW from a battlefield edge counts as overlapped on that corner unless this is in contact with a friendly element."
We play that the 'this' referred to is the front corner, not the element itself. So for example a non LH or Cav element which didn't move, with a corner closer thatn 1BW to a board edge but with a supporting element on the other flank still suffers a -1 for being overlapped.
Also if a single element (none LH or Cav) has both front corners within 1BW (for example because it's backed up towards the edge) and is contacted, would both front corners count as overlapped and so it suffers a -2?
Thanks

For what it’s worth Mark, I agree will everything you said. See Figure 17 on page 26 for an example. And don’t forget that elements occupying or assaulting Cities, Forts, and Camps are also exempt (page 10, paragraph 9). If anyone is interested, I have re-phrased the bewildering ‘Phantom Overlap’ rule in order to make it more understandable:- fanaticus.boards.net/post/23339/

Mark is spot on with his analysis, but I think this is one of the worst rules in the latest incarnation of DBA... utter bullsh@t...

I always thought it was -1 tops Edge near board edge gives it you unless protected by a chum Page 10 paragraph 8 does say:- “Only 1 overlap or flank contact is counted per flank.” And the very next sentence goes on to say:- “... any front corner less than 1 BW from a table-edge is overlapped…” Sooooo...if you have both front corners less than 1 BW from an edge, then tough, they both get the -1 penalty (just as they would by being overlapped by having an enemy element on each flank).

Thanks everyone, as I thought, but it's good to check.
