Having created HoTT armies for War of the Worlds Martians, giant radioactive ants from the 1954 film “Them!”, and currently making a Dalek army using figures from the Dalek Risk boardgame (see www.coolthings.com.au/assets/alt_4/DCT71.jpg?20210309032058 ), I’ve been thinking about the creation of a Cyberman army. I’ve looked at ‘spacesuit figures’ and ‘robots’, and although some of these could pass for the earlier Cybermen (the ones in silver overalls with an accordion on their chest!), I prefer something more like the later versions:- I’m thinking of a dismounted plate armoured man-at-arms from the late Medieval or early Renaissance period. I could file the face flat, paint on two black eyes with a slit for the mouth, and make their distinctive ‘handlebar’ head antenna out of thin copper wire. It won’t be exact, but it should pass when massed into units. So, can anyone suggest suitable 15mm figures for these?

Stevie,
I do not think you can buy 15mm Cybermen miniatures, so this may be the only option.

Mark

Thanks for the input Mark…I hadn’t considered 3D printing. Unfortunately here in the UK few libraries have 3D printers (the nearest one to me is 40 miles away), and those that do are still closed due to Covid (although I’m in no rush), plus I’ll need about 30 figures, which may take some time to print them all. Perhaps these bodies and limbs will do, with converted Cyberman type heads:- ...or these...

Stevie, I also have Daleks from the Risk game plus know how I’ll do UNIT by following Kaptain Kobald’s example from the Stronghold. However, other Dr Who monsters have always evaded me in 15mm. Those GZG figures are about the best proxies fro Cybermen I’ve seen. What is their figure code and description?

Here you go Paddy:- Possible Cybermen: cpmodels.co.uk/product-category/15mm-ranges/sci-fi-15mm-ranges/page/2/ …needs the heads converted to look more ‘Cyberman-like’ (and maybe bend the arms?). Possible Sontarans: shop.groundzerogames.co.uk/15mm-stargrunt/infantry/robots.html …needs Miliput to convert the heads into large squat hemispheres (or use them as Cybermen). (the images on the GZG ‘Stargrunt’ site are not shown unless you click on each individual item)For what it’s worth here are my own army lists for Doctor Who and Enemies. I like to have each army using their own individual distinctive troop types... ...although I’ll probably only get around to building the first six of them. (Items in purple affect magic, and those in brown can fight in Bad Going):- U.N.I.T. (Mixed arms) GALACTIC FEDERATION (Mixed arms) 1 x The Brigadier (Hero General) @ 4 AP 1 x Commander (Blade General) @ 2 AP 4 x Infantry Platoons (Shooters) @ 8 AP 4 x Space Marines (Shooters) @ 8 AP 1 x Field Gun (Artillery) @ 3 AP 1 x Ion Particle Beam (Magician) @ 4 AP 2 x Armoured Cars (Riders) @ 4 AP 2 x Hover APCs (Knights) @ 4 AP 1 x Centurion Tank (Knight) @ 2 AP 1 x Hover Tank (Behemoth) @ 4 AP 1 x Doctor + Companions (Sneakers) @ 3 AP 1 x Flight of Robot Drones (Flyers) @ 2 AP Stronghold = Country Manor House HQ Stronghold = Domed Military Base or The Tower of London Alternatives:- Alternatives:- 1 x Kate Stewart (Blade General) @ 2 AP 1 x Doctor + Companions (Sneakers) @ 3 AP 2 x extra Infantry (Shooters) @ 4 AP 1 x Native Alien Allies (Lurkers) @ 1 AP 1 x Armed Civilians (Lurkers) @ 1 AP (The Brigadier is in a jeep. Kate is with Osgood) (The Dome is glass from a wall clock)
DALEKS (Aerials & Blades) CYBERMEN (Spears) 1 x Supreme Dalek (Blade General) @ 2 AP 1 x Cyberleader (Spear General) @ 2 AP 6 x Dalek Squads (Blades) @ 12 AP 9 x Cyberman Sections (Spears) @ 18 AP 2 x Aerial Squads (Airboats) @ 6 AP 2 x Cybermat Units (Warbands) @ 4 AP 2 x Alien Robobeasts (Beasts) @ 4 AP Stronghold = Cybertomb Stronghold = Dalek City
Alternatives:- Alternatives:- 1 x Davros + Special Weapons Daleks (Artillery) @ 3 AP 1 x CyberKing (giant Behemoth General) @ 4 AP 1 x Mutated Slaves (Lurkers) @ 1 AP 1 x Missy (Magician General) @ 4 AP 1 x Dalek Saucer (God or Dragon) @ 4 AP 2 x Flying Cybermen (Flyers) @ 4 AP
(Airboats are three flying Daleks, as Airboats and Blades (Flying Cybermen only appear when Missy is around, both have the same combat factors. Davros could be a and even then they don't seem to shoot when flying, magician, but the PIP costs of having aerials and magicians but only use their flight as a means of transport. means someone will be standing around doing nothing) Cybermen look best if they all have the same pose)
AUTONS (Artillery & Shooters) SONTARANS (Heroes & Warbands) 1 x Swarm Leader (Cleric General) @ 3 AP 1 x Sontaran Marshal (Hero General) @ 4 AP 6 x Auton Gangs (Shooters) @ 12 AP 6 x Sontaran Platoons (Warbands) @ 12 AP 3 x Auton Crowds (Artillery) @ 9 AP 2 x Sontaran Sub-Commanders (Heroes) @ 8 AP Stronghold = Abandoned Factory, hiding Stronghold = Landed Sontaran Spacehip the Nestene Consciousness Alternatives:- Alternatives:- 1 x Auton Imposters (Sneakers) @ 3 AP 4 x extra Sontarans (Warbands) @ 8 AP 1 x Plastic Trees (Lurkers) @ 1 AP 1 x The Master (Magician General) @ 4 AP
(The Swarm Leader is a pile of meteorite spheres. (Marshals and Sub-Commanders are helmetless. Since Autons are not actually 'alive', they are resistant Since Sontarans love war and appear to be rash, to magic-technology. Gangs are 3 civilian mannequins, making them Warbands seems appropriate) while crowds are 6 mannequins using mass shooting. Imposters could be plastic black lidded rubbish bins)
SILURIAN SEA DEVILS (Behemoths & Shooters) ICE WARRIORS (Knights) 1 x Silurian Leader (Shooter General) @ 2 AP 1 x Grand Marshal (Hero General) @ 4 AP 4 x Silurian Warrior Groups (Shooters) @ 8 AP 6 x Ice Warrior Squads (Knights) @ 12 AP 1 x Giant Titanosaur (Paladin) @ 4 AP 1 x Gargantua Sonic Cannon (Magician) @ 4 AP 2 x Dinosaurs (Behemoths) @ 8 AP 2 x Sonic Disruptor Warriors (Shooters) @ 4 AP 1 x Pteranodon (Flyer) @ 2 AP Stronghold = Snow covered mountains Stronghold = Natural Cave Entrance
Alternatives:- Alternatives:- 2 x pacts of Raptors (Knights) @ 4 AP 2 x extra Sonic Warriors (Shooters) @ 4 AP
(The Titanosaur's long stride makes it move quickly, (Making these Knights is a bit of a stretch, standing on its hind legs allows its long neck to reach but I didn't want yet another Blade army. low flying enemies, and its 80 ton body has a lot of Ice Warriors like cold conditions) salty blood flowing through it that acts like a river against magic-technology)
TOCLAFANES (All Aerial) THE GREAT INTELLIGENCE (Hordes) 1 x Saxon-Master (Aerial General) @ 6 AP 1 x Spheres or Dr Simeon (Magician) @ 4 AP 6 x Toclafane Flights (Flyers) @ 12 AP 5 x Robot Yeti (Blades) @ 10 AP 2 x Toclafane Squadrons (Airboats) @ 6 AP 7 x Web Fungus or Snowmen (Hordes) @ 7 AP Stronghold = The Valiant Flying Carrier 1 x Whisper Men (Sneakers) @ 3 AP Stronghold = Snow covered mountains or the London Underground Alternatives:- Alternatives:- 1 x Captured TARDIS (Magician) @ 4 AP extra Fungus or Snowmen (Hordes) @ 1 AP each 2 x Controlled Soldiers (Shooters) @ 4 AP 1 x Controlled People (Lurkers) @ 1 AP 1 x Treacherous Quislings (Lurkers) @ 1 AP
(The Master is flying about in the Valiant's (Use lichen or cotton wool for the Web Fungus, presentation control room. Toclafanes are and Miliput for the Snowmen) in flights of 3 or squadrons of 6 as Airboats)
OTHER ENEMIES…most of which never fought U.N.I.T. Zygons (a shape-shifting civil war army) Carrionites (magician witches) Weeping Angels (stone statues) Corpse Monks (with their pyramid) The Silence Rebellious Ood Draconians Judoon Headless Monks

Those are certainly lovely looking figures Bob, thanks for the links. 👍 Proper Cybermen, various Doctors, his Companions, and even Missy. And I also spotted some Ice Warriors…nice.
However, they are all 28mm-ish in size, which is much larger than my existing HoTT armies, requiring a larger 900mm table, larger terrain than my usual DBA 15mm scenery, and can only be used against each other.
You’ve given me a difficult choice… …use these larger figures (which look great), or modify smaller 15mm figures (which won’t look as good, but are more practical).
Ah, decisions, decisions… 🤔

Between painting sessions, I have followed a few Star Wars Game movies – The Old Republic. Good Stuff. Rebel Minis UK have a good selection, but some could pass for Cybermen; Titan Marines, Valonian Army and Pangalactic Legion. Some filing, a 5mm brass rod to form a ‘handle’ for the head, paint silver, wash with Nuln Oil and done. rebelminis.com/15mmscifi.html

Stevie, sorry for presenting you with the dilemma. All of my HOTT stuff is 28mm so do not think of smaller scales./ Consider mounting your 28mm Dr Who contingent on 40mm wide bases and treat it as giant 15mm figures. See example here of HOTT skirmish, but you could still do mass battles with the small bases with big figures, www-personal.umich.edu/~abeattie/dbasum2005/HOTTZombie.htm

Alternative Armies has good figures for Ood in the 15mm Hordes of the Future (HOF) range, but I don't see any good matches for Cybermen in their ranges.

Some good suggestions there folks… …but I must admit, after considering very carefully about it (being drunk after watching a Eurovision Song Contest zoom meeting- not my idea I might add), I think I’ll finally go with Bob’s idea:- Wargames 28mm figures, on 40mm bases. They are just tooooooo good to ignore, and have so many good looking enemies to boot.
